Shopping guide for 150,000 yuan pure electric family sedan: Aion S Max or Qin PLUS EV Champion Edition?

As the prices of upstream raw materials for power batteries continue to fall, the domestic new energy vehicle market has also ushered in more intense competition. New models in the 200,000 yuan price range have been launched one after another, intending to compete for market share in this most popular price range in the country.

Recently, GAC's new energy brand Aion launched the successor model of the Aion S, a class pure electric sedan priced at 150,000 yuan - the Aion S Max.

In terms of pricing and product definition, the benchmark model of this model is undoubtedly the Qin PLUS EV Champion Edition of BYD, the domestic leader in new energy.

So judging from the actual usage experience, which one is more worthy of purchase for ordinary consumers, the Aion S Max or the Qin PLUS EV Champion Edition?

This time, we chose the 150,000 yuan version of two models: AION S 2024 MAX 70 Star Edition and Qin PLUS EV 2023 Champion Edition 510KM Beyond Edition. Let's compare which model is a better choice~

Design

In terms of appearance, Aion S Max has undergone significant changes compared to its predecessor. The overall design language has changed from a sharp and aggressive style to a very rounded futuristic style. The front running lights are highly recognizable, and combined with the rounded front hood, it shows a strong sense of avant-garde.

The overall curve of the car body is very large, which not only conforms to the aesthetic taste of current car market consumers, but also makes improvements in wind resistance, which can play a certain role in improving battery life. It can be said to be a design that kills two birds with one stone.

As a model whose sales have repeatedly set historical records for independent new energy brands, the Qin PLUS EV Champion Edition continues the design style of its predecessor in terms of appearance. The front face with Dragon Face 3.0 design, sharp running lights on both sides and the connecting rod that is about to emerge give people a domineering feeling.

The side design is very much like a smaller version of the Han EV. It does not have the cheap feel that is common among models of the same price. It looks very elegant. The rear design is relatively complicated, and the English slogan takes up too much visual space. If it can be removed later, the rear of the Qin PLUS EV will appear more harmonious.

In general, the appearance of Qin PLUS EV is more stable, while Aion S Max is more suitable for young consumers, and their respective styles target quite different groups of people.

Power control

In terms of power, although the price range of the two models does not attach as much importance to performance as the pure electric market above 200,000, even for family cars, sufficient performance can play a certain role in safety, so performance is also a very important factor in car selection.

Aion S Max uses an electric motor with 235N·m torque, 150kW power and 204 horsepower. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds, which is at the upper level among pure electric family cars of the same price. Although the rear suspension uses a torsion beam suspension, the overall driving experience is relatively solid without any loose feeling.

Overall, the Aion S Max's power and handling performance are excellent. If you have demands for these two aspects, it will not disappoint you.

Qin PLUS EV is equipped with an electric motor with 136Ps horsepower, 100kW power and 180N·m torque. Judging from the parameters alone, its performance is far behind that of Aion S Max, and it is only around the middle level in the same price range, so its performance cannot satisfy consumers who pursue a certain level of dynamic performance.

Secondly, since Qin PLUS EV adopts an extremely comfort-oriented tuning strategy, its actual driving experience is relatively soft, lacking road feel, and lacks the feeling of pointing and hitting the target when driving. It is more suitable for consumers who just want a comfortable family car.

Battery life

In terms of battery life, the Aion S Max uses a 59.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The battery capacity is at a relatively common level in the same price range, and can achieve a maximum range of 510km. Although it is not long, it is completely sufficient for consumers who only drive in the city.

Qin PLUS EV also uses a 57.6kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Although the capacity is smaller than that of Aion S Max, Qin PLUS EV has better power consumption control, with a power consumption of only 11.9kWh per 100 kilometers, so the longest cruising range can reach about 510km.

Both Aion S Max and Qin PLUS EV support fast charging, and can be charged from 30% to 80% in half an hour. For occasional long-distance travel needs, the charging speed of both is not outstanding, but it is also a relatively mainstream level in the same price range. There is no need to worry about the high-speed fast charging speed being too slow and affecting the itinerary.

However, it is still recommended that if there are conditions to install a charging pile, home charging should be given priority. This can effectively reduce the cost of using the car, and slow charging can also protect the battery to a certain extent. It is a best of both worlds option.

Interior Configuration

Aion S Max adopts a minimalist style that is more in line with the aesthetic tastes of young consumers. The contrasting color interior design looks very fresh, without the old-fashioned feeling of traditional models. At the same time, the cabin is also covered with a large amount of soft materials. In terms of both appearance and touch, Aion S Max will not make you feel that this is the quality that can be obtained by a 150,000 yuan car model.

Even the central armrest and door panels are covered with a large amount of soft materials. It can basically be said that this is one of the models with the highest area of ​​soft material coverage in the same price range, taking into account both visual beauty and comfort.

The central control screen of Aion S Max is very large, reaching 14.6 inches, which is relatively large among direct competitors. At the same time, the car system is relatively open, and the operating experience of third-party applications is as smooth as the system, so the entertainment performance is excellent.

The interior design of Qin PLUS EV adopts a more traditional style, focusing on visual and tactile luxury. Therefore, although the center console is not covered with too many soft materials, the cover made of piano lacquer technology still makes the cabin look somewhat luxurious.

The workmanship and touch of the side door panels are also considered to be at a relatively good level in the same class. The overall style is more suitable for consumers who pursue comfort and luxury. If consumers are trading in traditional joint venture models, they may be shocked by the Qin PLUS EV's cabin.

Qin PLUS EV uses a 10.1-inch central control screen, which is much smaller than the Aion S Max's central control screen in terms of size, and the car-machine operation experience is not as smooth as the latter. Therefore, the audio and video aspects are at most suitable for watching short videos. The performance in other aspects is poor. We look forward to the improvement of subsequent models.

Buying advice

For most consumers, Aion S Max is a more suitable choice than Qin PLUS EV, because in terms of power and interior, Aion S Max can provide stronger power output and better control experience at the same price, and the interior style is more modern and comfortable.

However, if you care more about the appearance of the car, the stability of the interior, and the comfortable driving experience, then Qin PLUS EV is also worthy of recommendation. Thanks to the extremely high sales volume of Qin PLUS EV, its maintenance costs will be lower, there are more third-party accessories, and the cost of using the car is lower, making it a more affordable choice.
