2018 iPhones support background NFC tag reading without calling the app

According to the Apple Developer website, the iPhone Xs / Xs Max / Xr models have also improved their NFC functions - supporting direct scanning of NFC tags without calling the App. Apple wrote in the original text: "On iPhones that support background tag reading, the system can scan and read NFC data without the user calling the App to scan. Each time a new tag is read, the system displays a pop-up notification. After the user clicks, the system passes the tag data to the corresponding program."

If the iPhone is locked at this time, the system will prompt the user to unlock the phone before passing the tag data to the relevant app.

It should be pointed out that the background tag reading function can only work when the user's iPhone is in normal use, so as to avoid accidental tag reading.

The feature will also be temporarily blocked if the device is not unlocked, the core NFC reader or Apple Pay wallet is in use, the camera is on, or airplane mode is enabled.

The newly introduced background scanning function allows users to easily scan any NFC tags in museums, shops, and other places without opening the app first.

After scanning the NFC tag, a notification will be displayed on the screen, and you can tap the notification to launch the app. If the app does not have permission, it will not be launched automatically.

***, according to Apple, the background NFC tag reading feature is limited to iPhone Xs / Xs Max / Xr models. Last year's iPhone X and earlier models are not supported.
