In 2022, Xiaopeng released its first flagship SUV, the Xiaopeng G9, which it had high hopes for. However, due to overly complicated configuration versions and missing product details, the Xiaopeng G9 directly faced a situation where the first battle was the final battle.

Therefore, we also heard a lot of news about the major internal changes in Xiaopeng Company, such as the dismissal of senior executives, the redivision of market areas, etc. Until this year, under the slogan of "Fighting G9 again", we welcomed the 2024 Xiaopeng G9 after filling in the gaps.

Since the new model has received very good response after its release, this article will analyze in detail which configuration of the 2024 Xiaopeng G9 is worth buying from the perspective of Xiaopeng G9's own product strength and market competitiveness.

Design

As a minor facelift of the 2022 model, the exterior design of the 24 Xiaopeng G9 has not undergone any major adjustments, but the color scheme has been added with new colors: Midnight Black and Interstellar Green, so that car owners are no longer limited to choosing between three extremely similar colors: white, silver and gray.

If you want to recommend a color, then I highly recommend the main color of this car - Interstellar Green. Interstellar Green is not a simple dark green, but more like Tibetan green, so it looks like a deep beauty. Even as a family car, its temperament will not appear too young or jumpy.

Secondly, in terms of styling, the design of Xiaopeng G9 is undoubtedly very successful. The front face is stable but not without a sense of technology and avant-garde. The waistline on the side of the car body is very uplifting, giving the G9 a sense of power that matches its body shape.

Thanks to the fact that the Xiaopeng design team did not place the laser radar on the roof, the Xiaopeng G9 does not have the current common "new energy horns". Visually, it looks more coordinated and easier to accept, which is also worth learning from other car companies.

Just from the design perspective, there is nothing obviously wrong with the styling of the Xiaopeng G9, whether it is the 22nd or 24th model. The failure of the 22nd model has no direct relationship with its appearance. Therefore, if the design score is 10 out of 10, then the Xiaopeng G9 can be given 9 points.

Power and endurance

Excluding the intelligent driving version, the 24 Xiaopeng G9s have a total of three endurance versions: 570, 650 and 702. Among them, only the 650 version is equipped with front and rear dual motors, while the other two endurance versions both have a rear single motor and have exactly the same performance.

The power of a single motor is 230kW, the torque is 430N·m, and the total horsepower is 313Ps. The official nominal zero-to-hundred acceleration time is 6.4 seconds. The performance is relatively outstanding among medium and large SUVs of the same price, but it is not top-notch.

If you care more about performance, you can spend extra money to choose 650 Max. The extremely high performance reserve brought by the dual motors allows the Xiaopeng G9 to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds. The performance is completely in the first tier of the same price.

Unfortunately, the top speed of all 24 models is only 200km/h. Therefore, when driving at high speed, the acceleration ability of Xiaopeng G9 will become weaker in the latter half. If it can be increased to 220km/h, the acceleration ability in the middle and later stages will be significantly improved.

In terms of battery life, the 570 endurance version uses a 78.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, and the 702 and 650 versions are both 98kWh ternary lithium batteries. In terms of cold resistance, the ternary lithium battery will perform better.

However, since the entire Xiaopeng G9 series is built on the full-range 800V high-voltage SiC platform, and the battery packs all use 3C ultra-fast charging battery packs, they can achieve ultra-fast charging from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes, and there is basically no range anxiety.

If you basically commute in the city, then there is no need to choose the 702-mile range version. And if you are not very sensitive to the high performance of the 650 Max, then choosing the 570-mile range version would be a more affordable and practical choice.

The ultra-long driving range of 702km is more suitable for users who travel frequently on business or between cities and have poor charging conditions. Most users who find charging more convenient do not need to pay for such a large battery pack.

Intelligent Driving

Intelligent driving has always been Xiaopeng's core competitiveness and selling point. As Xiaopeng's flagship model, the 24 Xiaopeng G9 is naturally equipped with Xiaopeng's most powerful intelligent driving technology solution at present - the XNGP full-scene intelligent driving cockpit.

Xiaopeng G9's XNGP is based on dual NVIDIA DRIVE Orin chips with a computing power of up to 508 TOPS. The MAX version has 31 sensing elements, allowing Xiaopeng G9 to realize the three core functions of urban NGP, high-speed NGP and VPA-L memory parking.

Since Xiaopeng's latest XNGP is an intelligent driving system developed based on map-free technology, it does not need to rely on high-precision maps for guidance in actual use, and there are fewer restrictions on usage scenarios. It will be able to cover 50 cities across the country by the end of this year.

In addition, the VPA-L parking lot memory parking function of Xiaopeng G9 is also based on autonomous learning, which can realize cross-floor memory parking. It is very practical in shopping malls and residential areas where multi-storey parking lots are everywhere.

Therefore, compared with the Pro version, the MAX version of Xiaopeng G9 is undoubtedly more worthy of purchase. After all, its intelligent driving function has gone beyond the stage of drawing pie in the sky and can be used right after purchase.

Interior Configuration

In terms of interior design, the 24-model Xiaopeng G9 has made some additions and subtractions based on the 22-model. Here we will focus on the changes of Xiaopeng G9.

First of all, the front row has changed from the original single charging station to a double-sided 50W mobile phone air-cooled wireless fast charger. The driver and front passenger's mobile phones can be charged together, instead of having to queue up for charging as before, which improves convenience.

Secondly, the front seats have been upgraded from bottom ventilation to back and bottom dual ventilation, which has solved the problem of sweat all over the back when driving in summer.

A new optional queen co-pilot configuration has been added. When enabled, the co-pilot can enjoy a 120° stretched sitting position and is equipped with a makeup space. This keeps up with the mainstream configuration in the current mid-to-large SUV market.

These three points are the most important improvements in the Xiaopeng G9 cockpit. Unfortunately, in order to reduce costs, the Xiaopeng G9 removed the highly acclaimed Dynaudio speakers and replaced them with the self-developed XOpera acoustic solution, which will reduce the audio and video experience.

Apart from this, there are basically no major changes in the cabin interior of the Xiaopeng G9, and the design language is still more inclined towards technological luxury.

A large area of ​​soft material is used to wrap the car, so that the owner and passengers can fully feel the comfortable touch brought by the leather material. The simple design elements will not make the cabin look cluttered.

Therefore, it can be said that the cockpit design of Xiaopeng G9 is actually the design that best conforms to the public's aesthetic taste. It does not look too simple due to its highly simplified design, nor does it look like a "big sale at an auto parts city" due to excessive material decoration.

Buying advice

There are a total of 5 versions of the Xiaopeng G9 series, among which there is no need to look at the Pro version, because if you choose the Comfort Package that includes many comfort configurations including the Queen's co-pilot, then the price difference with the Max will be very small. What's more, the Max has richer intelligent driving functions, and the high computing power redundancy also enables the Max to have longer intelligent driving OTA updates in the future, so you can directly choose the Max version.

In terms of battery life, the 702km battery life version is only suitable for users who need to drive long distances. If you have good charging conditions and basically only drive in the city, then choose the 570km battery life version because of the ultra-fast charging technology, the energy replenishment speed is very fast.

The 650 Max version is suitable for users who pursue extreme performance. If you really want to experience the 3.9s acceleration performance, then you can choose it. However, it should be noted that the top speed of the five cars is 200 km/h, and the actual acceleration experience may not be as exciting as you imagine.
