China Passenger Car Association & CAM: Passenger car market product competitiveness index is 91.3 in August 2022

The Automobile Market Research Branch of the China Automobile Dealers Association (Passenger Car Market Information Joint Committee, referred to as the Passenger Car Market Information Joint Committee) and Shanghai Fulan Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. ( CAM Automotive Consulting) jointly released the " Product Competitiveness Index " with the aim of building a mature product evaluation standard, studying the factors affecting product competitiveness, and gaining insight into market trends.

The " Product Competitiveness Index " is an index that quantifies product competitiveness by building a product competitiveness index system based on four dimensions: user reputation, market popularity, product evaluation, and price strength. The larger the index value, the stronger the comprehensive competitiveness of the product.

Index Overview for August 2022

Taking January 2019 as the base period, the overall market product competitiveness index in August 2022 was 91.3 , an increase of 0.9 points month-on-month ; from the perspective of the three major market segments, the sedan, SUV and MPV markets all increased month-on-month, with increases of 0.5 , 1.2 and 1.1 points respectively.

In August 2022, the wholesale volume of passenger cars was 2.097 million units, a significant increase year-on-year and a slight decrease month-on-month; although the national average number of high-temperature days increased compared with the same period last year, resulting in a significant decline in customer flow to dealerships in some areas, the continued improvement in logistics and supply chains after the epidemic, sufficient channel inventory, and the high level of auto market promotions, mainstream automakers have increased their preferential activities, which has led to an overall price increase of 0.5 percentage points; overall, the overall market product competitiveness increased by 0.9 percentage points month-on-month.

Trend of product competitiveness index in the sedan market
Overall, the product competitiveness index of the sedan market in August 2022 was 91.4, up 0.5 points month-on-month. Among them, the product evaluation, price strength and user reputation indicators increased by 1.1, 0.4 and 0.3 points month-on-month respectively.

Trend of product competitiveness index in the SUV market

Overall, the SUV market product competitiveness index in August 2022 was 90.7 , up 1.2 points month-on-month . Among them, the product evaluation, user reputation and price strength indicators increased by 2.6 , 0.8 and 0.6 points respectively month- on -month, while the market heat index fell by 0.9 points month-on-month .

MPV market product competitiveness index trend

Overall, the MPV market product competitiveness index in August 2022 was 96.4 , up 1.1 points month-on-month . Among them, the product evaluation, user reputation and market heat indicators increased by 2.1 , 1.4 and 1.2 points month - on-month respectively , while the price strength index fell by 0.7 points month-on-month .
