Why does my country build the Beidou navigation system?

my country is building the Beidou satellite navigation system, with hundreds of billions of yuan invested before 2020. But haven't we been using the US GPS system? Why do we have to build another Beidou navigation system? According to the National Medium- and Long-Term Science and Technology Development Program, building my country's independent Beidou navigation system will be one of the country's 16 major projects. The country will invest hundreds of billions of yuan to achieve the goal of Beidou signal coverage around the world in 2020. Currently, the more mature navigation systems in the world are the US GPS navigation system and Russia's GLONASS system. my country has always used the services provided by the US GPS system in the past. This system can provide civil navigation signals to the world without interruption and tacitly exempts the use fee. Data shows that GPS occupies more than 95% of the market share in the domestic navigation market. The reason why it is necessary to build an independent navigation system is because: 1. The need to maintain national information security According to Li Guangxia, director of the Space-based Information Teaching and Research Center of the Communication Engineering College of the PLA University of Science and Technology, over-reliance on the US GPS system will threaten national information security. As a major infrastructure with dual military and civilian attributes, satellite navigation has a significant and extensive impact on major strategic interests such as national economic security, national defense and military, and international status. Once an emergency or major conflict of interest occurs, both national defense and military and economic and social security will be constrained or even coerced. At present, GPS timing systems are used in important fields such as electricity, financial securities and mobile communications. These systems are very large, and the requirements for time synchronization and time accuracy are getting higher and higher. Therefore, "timing" services are indispensable. Once a unified time cannot be obtained, the system will be confused or even paralyzed. From a security perspective, it is more appropriate to use autonomous services. In addition, transportation, personnel, etc. may not be able to meet travel needs due to the inability to obtain accurate positioning services. At the same time, there will be problems with the assembly and deployment of a large number of troops. 2. Guarantee for responding to major natural disasters After a major disaster such as an earthquake, the wired communication system may lose its function, but the satellite system will not be affected. It can accurately locate the location of the disaster and provide navigation services for rescue personnel. The satellite navigation system can also effectively provide disaster warnings. For example, the "Beijing Geological Disaster Monitoring and Early Warning Demonstration Project" project is being implemented in Beijing. The project introduces Beidou satellite navigation and positioning, GIS geographic information system and other technologies, uses GPRS, 3G network, radio, satellite as communication means, integrates a variety of geological disaster monitoring sensors, and realizes on-site geological information monitoring and acquisition, geological disaster data management and integration, geological disaster prediction and prevention and control decision-making after technical model analysis. It can be widely used in the monitoring and early warning of geological disasters such as landslides, collapses, mudslides, ground fissures, ground collapse, and ground subsidence. 3. Significant economic benefits A huge industrial system can be formed around satellite navigation. According to the 2011 Surveying and Mapping Geographic Information Blue Book "China Geographic Information Industry Development Report (2011)" released by the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information Research Center and the Social Sciences Academic Press, my country's satellite navigation industry has entered a period of rapid development, and it is expected that the output value will exceed 225 billion yuan in 2015, becoming an important new growth point for the national economy. The application field of satellite navigation services is very wide, not only to meet domestic needs, but also to go abroad. After achieving signal coverage in Asia, Beidou navigation can provide services for ASEAN countries. It plays an important role in railways, highways, water conservancy, river transportation, shipping, logistics, location services and other fields, and helps ASEAN's economic growth. If the Beidou satellite is fully built, my country will become one of the few countries with independent satellite navigation services, and the country's comprehensive strength will be further enhanced.
