Microsoft: 49% of respondents in the 2023 Job Trends Index report are worried about being "taken away" by AI

Microsoft recently launched its 2023 annual Work Trends Index report, focusing on employees' views on artificial intelligence and the impact of artificial intelligence on productivity.

According to the report, two-thirds of respondents said they did not have enough time and energy to complete their work; and 49% of respondents were worried that artificial intelligence would affect their jobs.

Microsoft said the report surveyed 31,000 employees from 31 countries and regions and analyzed "trillions of aggregated productivity signals across Microsoft 365 and LinkedIn labor market trends."

The main information is as follows:

  • Two-thirds of employees deal with a large number of emails and chat messages every day, affecting their work efficiency and not having enough time and energy to complete their work.

  • 62% of employees say they waste a lot of time looking for information, communicating and coordinating at work every day, leaving them with insufficient time to innovate and collaborate with others.

  • 49% of respondents are concerned that their jobs will be taken away by artificial intelligence

  • 70% of respondents hope that AI can do more work and reduce their workload

  • 82% of business leaders surveyed believe that employees will need new skills related to AI.

  • Microsoft’s LinkedIn job listings in the U.S. that mention “GPT” or “GAI” (generative artificial intelligence) grew 79% year-over-year.
