Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin recently gave an interview. In the interview, the two said that in the early days of Google, they wanted to sell the company for $1 million. In the interview, the two recalled that in 1999, Google had planned to sell to the then search engine Excite for more than $1 million. However, the founders eventually stopped the deal because Excite lacked the "passion" for search that Google had in its early days. According to Excite's investor Vinod Khosla at the time, the transaction price was $350,000. Khosla was also the host of the interview. Today, 15 years later, Google has grown into a fairly large company, and the two founders must think about what role the company should play now. Page said that the amount of information people get online is still out of touch with the time they spend in front of the computer, and Google's mission is to solve this problem. The "I'm Feeling Lucky" button is just a rudimentary way to reduce browsing time, and it doesn't work well. Google Search's current autocomplete function is much more successful in this regard. Despite its huge success, Google is expanding into many areas. Internet-connected balloons, smart contact lenses and driverless cars are all projects the company is currently researching. Brin, who runs the "Google X" department, hinted when talking about driverless cars that the project will not only change the design standards of the automotive industry, but may also change the world by reducing the parking space in cities. When asked about the future of Google, the two talked about the company's progress in machine learning and artificial intelligence. They said that the technology used by the "Google X" driverless car can "see" and adapt to the surrounding environment. They also pointed out that a more common type of artificial intelligence in the future may have the ability to think and reason. Google's acquisition of DeepMind shows that it wants to be at the forefront of this field. Although there are many areas involved, Brin and Page also said that there are some areas they want to avoid. Technology companies are currently competing fiercely in the market for wearable devices and health sensors with tracking and recording capabilities, but Brin said that the health industry in the United States is "too regulated and too painful to do." At the end of the interview, the two put the topic on the overall social level. Page said that government agencies are currently inefficient and people work too long, which can be reduced because "it's not difficult for people to make things that make their lives happy." When someone asked if there were any serious disagreements between the two, Brin said: "We can think alike on many things. As a winner of Toutiao's Qingyun Plan and Baijiahao's Bai+ Plan, the 2019 Baidu Digital Author of the Year, the Baijiahao's Most Popular Author in the Technology Field, the 2019 Sogou Technology and Culture Author, and the 2021 Baijiahao Quarterly Influential Creator, he has won many awards, including the 2013 Sohu Best Industry Media Person, the 2015 China New Media Entrepreneurship Competition Beijing Third Place, the 2015 Guangmang Experience Award, the 2015 China New Media Entrepreneurship Competition Finals Third Place, and the 2018 Baidu Dynamic Annual Powerful Celebrity. |
