China Charging Alliance: Operation status of national electric vehicle charging and swapping infrastructure in August 2023

Infrastructure operation status

1. Operation of public charging infrastructure : In August 2023, the number of public charging piles increased by 61,000 compared with July, a year-on-year increase of 39.9%. As of August 2023, the member units of the alliance reported a total of 2.272 million public charging piles, including 963,000 DC charging piles and 1.307 million AC charging piles. From September 2022 to August 2023, the average monthly increase in public charging piles was about 54,000.

2. The operation of public charging infrastructure in provinces, regions and cities . The public charging piles built in the top 10 regions of Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Hubei, Beijing, Shandong, Anhui, Henan and Fujian account for 71.2%. The national charging power is mainly concentrated in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Hebei, Fujian, Shanghai, Shandong, Shaanxi, Henan and other provinces. The power flow is mainly to buses and passenger cars, and other types of vehicles such as sanitation logistics vehicles and taxis account for a small proportion. In August 2023, the total charging power in the country was about 3.26 billion kWh, an increase of 10 million kWh from the previous month, a year-on-year increase of 39.8% and a month-on-month increase of 0.2%.

3. Operation of public charging infrastructure operators . As of August 2023, the top 15 charging piles operated by charging operators nationwide are: Teladian operates 451,000, Xingxing Charging operates 408,000, Yunkuai Charging operates 379,000, State Grid operates 196,000, Xiaoju Charging operates 127,000, Weijingyun operates 110,000, Shenzhen Car Power Network operates 82,000, China Southern Power Grid operates 73,000, Yiwi Energy operates 73,000, Hui Charging operates 61,000, Wancheng Wanchong operates 52,000, Weilan Kuai Charging operates 44,000, Wanma Ai Charging operates 30,000, China Putian operates 25,000, and SAIC Anyue operates 25,000. These 15 operators account for 94.0% of the total, and the remaining operators account for 6.0% of the total.

4. Overall operation of charging infrastructure : From January to August 2023, the number of charging infrastructure increased by 1.998 million units, of which the number of public charging piles increased by 474,000 units and the number of private charging piles installed on vehicles increased by 1.524 million units, up 24.8% year-on-year. As of August 2023, the total number of charging infrastructure nationwide was 7.208 million units, up 67.0% year-on-year.

5. Comparison between charging infrastructure and electric vehicles . From January to August 2023, the increase in charging infrastructure was 1.998 million units, and the sales volume of new energy vehicles was 5.374 million units. The charging infrastructure and new energy vehicles continued to grow rapidly. The increase ratio of charging piles to vehicles was 1:2.7. The construction of charging infrastructure can basically meet the rapid development of new energy vehicles.
