First experience with Samsung Galaxy Core Max, the new product of S5 worth 1,000 yuan

First experience with Samsung Galaxy Core Max, the new product of S5 worth 1,000 yuan

Looking Ahead

As the fifth generation product of Samsung's S series, the biggest feature of GALAXY S5 since its release this year is that while continuing Samsung's consistent design concept, it has added more unique elements to the details.

Following the footsteps of S5, Samsung launched a lightweight entry-level phone called Galaxy Core Max in September this year. It has a more compact size, supports dual SIM dual standby, runs Android 4.4 system, and uses TouchWiz interface. More importantly, its price is only 1799 yuan.

Hardware appearance

This time, the Samsung Galaxy Core Max is in white, with the model number SM-G5108Q. From the front, it looks a bit like the Samsung GALAXY S5 , except that the screen is slightly smaller.

Samsung Galaxy Core Max uses a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display. Although it is smaller than some mainstream models, the AMOLED screen features make it super power-saving like the GALAXY S5. Unfortunately, the screen resolution is only 960×540 qHD level, and the display fineness is average.

The overall design is Samsung's traditional style. For those who are used to large-screen phones over 5 inches, this phone is not too big and is very suitable for one-handed operation.

From the front, Samsung adheres to its own design style. There is an earpiece just above the screen and the Samsung logo below it. To the right of the earpiece are the light sensor, distance sensor and 5-megapixel front camera, which is higher than the 2.1-megapixel front camera of the flagship GALAXY S5 and is more suitable for female users who love taking selfies.

As usual, the Samsung Galaxy Core Max's Home button, Back button, and Multitasking button are located below the screen, and are combined with a physical button design. The side frame is a silver metal-textured plastic material. Since it is Samsung, it is of course not metal, but this is understandable considering the price.

Looking from the back, the phone has a relatively simple and soft design, with the flash, rear camera and speaker on the top in turn, and the 8-megapixel main camera slightly protruding.

The back is made of a white plastic cover with imitation leather texture, which can provide a certain anti-slip effect and is suitable for use in today's weather. Although it looks almost the same as the back cover of the GALAXY S5, the feel is still a little different.

The 2200mAh removable battery is quite impressive for a smartphone with a 4.8-inch screen. In terms of hardware, the phone has 8GB of built-in storage, supports 4G Internet access and a maximum of 64GB of MicroSD expansion memory. In terms of processor, it uses a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor, which can meet the general needs of most people.

Software System

Galaxy Core Max uses Android 4.4. It runs smoothly and there is basically no lag. However, the 1GB RAM is still a gap compared with mainstream models. The body capacity is 8GB, and it supports expansion cards to expand the capacity.

Themes and desktop wallpapers can be changed according to your preferences. The main interface style of Galaxy Core Max is the classic design of Samsung TouchWiz.

A major highlight of this mobile phone system is the super power saving mode. After it is started, the entire screen enters the super power saving mode. The screen immediately changes to only three colors: black, white, and gray, and the black and white screen for the most commonly used functional applications. For the AMOLED screen, this will of course save power and extend standby time.

Using AnTuTu's running test, the overall score is at a medium level. As a lightweight entry-level phone from Samsung, this configuration got a score of 20686, which is pretty good.

In terms of camera imaging, the 8-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera are well configured for a phone of this price range and can meet the general requirements of the public. In photo mode, the white circle displayed on the screen can focus automatically or manually as needed, and users can also choose other built-in functions such as beauty, panorama, and best photo. Click the settings button to enter the settings interface for picture size, light sensitivity, flash, etc. The default function of the front camera is beauty, which simplifies the operation steps for users who like to take selfies.

Exterior

In general, the camera effect of this phone can basically meet the needs. Generally, the photos taken during the day are relatively clear, and the color reproduction is relatively accurate. The phone also supports recording up to 1080P full HD video, which can meet daily use needs.

Summarize:

All in all, the Galaxy Core Max launched by Samsung is closer to the flagship GALAXY S5 in terms of system software experience, but the gap is still quite obvious in hardware.

As an entry-level model of Samsung, the Galaxy Core Max is priced at 1799, which is not cost-effective compared with other entry-level models of domestic mobile phones. Compared with the products of Meizu, Xiaomi and other mid-range mobile phones, its competitiveness in the domestic market is still not strong enough. If you want to see Samsung's powerful works in the mid-to-low-end market, perhaps the future Galaxy A series is more worth looking forward to.
