China Passenger Car Association: China's auto imports will reach 799,000 units in 2023, down 10% year-on-year

According to recent news, Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, wrote today: China's automobile imports in 2023 will be 799,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 10%, but automobile imports have gradually recovered recently, setting a new high for imports this year in the fourth quarter.

Among them, the growth of imported cars mainly depends on the growth of luxury cars, and the proportion of luxury cars has increased significantly.

Judging from the growth rate, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Land Rover have performed generally well, while Lexus and Volvo have performed relatively weakly recently.

In detail, BMW sold a total of 187,231 imported cars in 2023, with a growth rate of 23%; Mercedes-Benz sold a total of 174,273 imported cars in 2023, with a growth rate of 11%; Audi sold a total of 62,212 imported cars in 2023, with a growth rate of 41%.

In addition, Land Rover also sold 53,350 imported vehicles in 2023, with the fastest growth rate of 43%.

Cui Dongshu said: The core driving force for the growth of the import market is still the consumption upgrade of passenger cars. Therefore, compared with ordinary fuel vehicles, the overall trend of luxury cars and imported cars is very good. However, the electrification transformation has changed the demand for fuel vehicles, so the demand for imported fuel vehicles has also declined significantly.

Imports of super luxury cars have been generally strong, with continued growth in the past few years, but declined in 2023.

In the future, we still need to prepare for the future and establish more import models to maintain a reasonable scale of imported vehicles.
