Why is the improvement of Android 5.1 to Hammer T1 so small?
At 19:00 on January 4, 2016, Smartisan Technology’s official forum posted a statement on the top post, stating that since Android 5.1 has little optimization for high-configuration phones like Smartisan T1 (it has a very obvious performance improvement for Nut phones with relatively low-end chips), Smartisan OS based on Android 4.4 will continue to be maintained and upgraded on Smartisan T1 until May 19, 2017. In other words, all current Smartisan T1 users will never get the official Android 5.0/5.1 system, and after May 19, 2017, the official system maintenance for Smartisan T1 will stop. Why is the improvement for Nut phones so great, but the optimization for Smartisan T1 so insignificant? Compared with Android 4.4, the biggest optimization and improvement of Android 5.1 is that it supports 64-bit applications, enables the AArch64 feature of 64-bit SoC, and enables the ART mode globally by default. In terms of parameters, the SoC equipped with Smartisan T1 is Snapdragon 801, which is a 32-bit processor. Although the Nut phone is equipped with the new SoC Snapdragon 615, it still has a gap in performance compared to the Snapdragon 801. The most important thing is that the Snapdragon 615 is still a 64-bit SoC, while the Snapdragon 801 is 32-bit. In other words, even if it is upgraded to Android 5.1, since the Snapdragon 801 is only 32-bit, it does not support 64-bit applications and systems, while the Snapdragon 615 of the Nut phone does. But there is a problem here. Even if it does not support the 64-bit system, the global ART mode of Android 5.1 has system optimization compared to the Smartisan T1 with Android 4.4, which cannot enable ART. So how much does Android 5.1 improve the Nut phone? Although we all know that Android 5.1 supports 64-bit applications and enables the AArch64 feature of 64-bit SoC, unfortunately, after we upgraded our Nut phone to Android 5.1, we found that it does not support 64-bit, and its Android 5.1 is 32-bit. In other words, the system optimization of the Nut phone upgraded to Android 5.1 mainly comes from the global ART mode, which is similar to the optimization effect of Smartisan T1 upgraded to Android 5.1. In other words, since the Android 5.1 of the Nut phone is 32-bit, why can't Smartisan T1 get the 32-bit Android 5.1 push? But we found that the Android 5.1 of Smartisan T2 supports 64-bit. The fact is indeed as Smartisan official said, Android 5.1 has no obvious optimization for high-configuration mobile phones such as Smartisan T1 (it has a very obvious performance improvement for Nut phones with relatively low-end chips), but Smartisan official did not make out the difference in performance improvement. The official statement that "Smartisan T1 cannot be upgraded to Android 5.1" is because the performance improvement is not as good as that of Nut phones is not true, because the currently launched 32-bit Android 5.1 has almost the same system optimization improvement for Nut phones and Smartisan T1.
