Why Far Cry Primal is worth buying before The Division comes out

Why Far Cry Primal is worth buying before The Division comes out

Nowadays, Ubisoft is criticized by many players. Problems such as buying bugs and giving away games and poor optimization frequently occur. Even its flagship masterpiece "Assassin's Creed" disappointed players due to many problems after its release. Some players even joked that Ubisoft's games can be understood by just watching the trailers.

Perhaps because the players' calls are too loud, or perhaps Ubisoft itself is determined to reform, the "Far Cry" series may become an opportunity to change Ubisoft. As early as when "Far Cry: Primal" was announced, the feeling it gave us was "different". To be precise, it should be that without changing the series model, the story was brought to the barbaric Stone Age in prehistoric times, and at the same time Ubisoft's original strengths were incorporated into it. On the one hand, it greatly carried forward the advantages of the previous work and increased the playability of the game, but on the other hand, it also inherited many difficult-to-overcome shortcomings.

No longer limited to FPS, you can use it as ACT

Many blockbusters nowadays have added elements from all sides, making the positioning of the game itself begin to become blurred. Take "Final Fantasy 13" for example. Although it is classified as an RPG game by the public, it has added the option of changing the movement and attack methods in the original turn of dead button pressing, which can be said to have increased the content of ACT.

The same seems to be true for "Far Cry: Primal". The most obvious feature of the previous "Far Cry" series is the rhythm of "rat-rat-rat". However, in this work, the "rat-rat-rat" rhythm has disappeared without a trace, and has been replaced by secret ambushes, precise assassinations, and bloody and violent melee combat.

This means that in this work you are no longer limited to eliminating the enemy. After adding the concept of tribe, how to preserve friendly forces has also become a key consideration. Starting from the first-person perspective of Taka's hunter, after experiencing a series of actions such as finding tribes, revenge, and re-establishing tribes, this game called FPS allows players to experience a primitive survival game full of blood, violence, and a full sense of crisis.

After incorporating many of the best aspects of other games, the complexity of the combat elements has also increased a lot. Although the melee combat method is quite refreshing, the lurking and assassination method can also be regarded as a test of the player's perseverance. Not only that, in this work we can also see attack operations like Eagle Eye from "Assassin's Creed", L1R1 from "Bloodborne", and even the aiming throw that Ubisoft calls the main reason for FPS games. It has to be said that Ubisoft has put much more effort into this game than the "Assassin's Creed" which was full of bugs.

Inheriting the attack mode of the series, players can choose to sneak around, mark enemies, or switch different weapons when discovered to engage in encounters at different distances. After madly attacking, find yourself surrounded on all sides? Quickly retreat and take out your bow and arrow to fly a kite. Hearing the sound of the bowstring in the game is also a kind of enjoyment. However, the addition and production of combat weapons such as bows, spears, and stone axes also indicate the diversified development ideas of this game.

The frustrating open mode

Similar to many RPG games, if the protagonist wants to reach the pinnacle of life and marry a beautiful, rich and white woman, oh no, it’s a beautiful, rich and black woman here, he must have a relatively good struggle experience. However, it is obvious that "Far Cry: Primal" inherits the way of creating the protagonist of the previous series. He is neither outstanding nor strong. He only relies on a strong soul to complete the whole story along the pitifully short main line.

However, "Far Cry: Primal" still maintains the supernatural style of this series. Unlike traditional games with clear main storyline mission settings, due to the open map setting, in addition to the simple main storyline, exploration and side quests are closely related to the theme of the game.

This kind of sandbox gameplay is also quite fun. Although the map and exploration give people a feeling similar to Tomb Raider 9, Ubisoft still hopes to give players a sense of crisis. The side quests triggered anytime and anywhere, as well as the one-time quests (the quests disappear after the protagonist dies), will make players feel helpless. Although these are more in line with the real feeling (Ubisoft also hopes to create a real primitive environment), and will also make people feel fully involved, it may not be a good thing for many players who like to play steadily. Imagine that when you are playing Civilization, you suddenly find that the computer will immediately execute the orders you give. What kind of experience would that be?

Excellent game system, fulfilling taming mode

Unlike the short and vague main storyline, the entire game system of "Far Cry: Primal" is filled with various elements such as conquest, exploration, hunting, construction, and upgrading in this crisis-filled world. With the addition of multiple hostile tribes, the theme of unified world is brought out again, but as a whole it makes people experience a set of fierce struggles of intrigue, just like lobbying for the conquest of the hunting country in the Warring States Period.

Although it is a bit distracting, when playing "GTA5", which players directly completed the main line? Aren't they all spending their time in that colorful world?

This game also adds collection elements, but unlike "Assassin's Creed" or "Tomb Raider", in addition to fixed equipment creation and upgrade parts, the collection of food and the appearance of health bars make this game unlike the current FPS. The most unique collection is the villagers. Consolidating your own power and attacking the occupied invasion battles requires the help of the team. Creating a tribe through a series of ways such as branch lines, exploration, killing enemies and rescuing others always feels like "Age of Empires", but this time you are no longer in the perspective of God.

However, it is worth discussing that although the villagers can provide players with a lot of material support, many supporting characters are completely unable to play their due roles. Even among the few people who are on good terms with the protagonist, their substantial help is only to fill in the upgrade conditions, becoming a useless existence.

However, although the game system seems to be very complicated, if you observe carefully, you will find that every link is closely linked. Conquering, exploring, hunting, building, and upgrading, isn’t it just a traditional primitive society? Of course, after adding the taming mode, Ubisoft should give a thumbs up.

In this open, vast world blueprint and bloody and violent living environment, wild beasts are not only enemies and food, but can also be partners in battle. Taming, as an indispensable part of Far Cry: Primal, can be started with the main storyline. In the thrilling process of feeding and taming, after the careful breeding, etc., the wild beasts become rare partners of the players. Maybe it is for victory, or maybe it is for satisfaction, but it is worth affirming that when you ride a mammoth into the panicked enemy's nest, the scene is so refreshing.

The main game is worth playing but please look forward to the DLC follow-up

Although this work gives people a revolutionary improvement compared to its predecessor, it also has its own flaws. The first is the weak main line. Although European and American games do not use plots to set off the main body like Japanese games, a monotonous main line is not a good thing. Although the exploration has been strengthened a lot, sometimes it is always hard to feel what this game is going to do. Either make the story more in-depth, or make it like "Bloodborne", just focusing on survival and not caring about anything else.

Secondly, although the sandbox exploration method is much better than the previous "Assassin's Creed: Syndicate", the extremely weak BOSS battles are completely incomparable to "Syndicate". As for the previous "Far Cry" games, perhaps the BOSS battles with many characteristics are what players still can't forget, but in "Far Cry: Primal", the supporting villains have regressed a lot, and the two pitifully small BOSS battles did not bring any pleasure to the players. Although taming is one of the selling points, it seems to be of little use without the cooperation of powerful battles.

Therefore, it is difficult for us to determine whether this is another case of Ubisoft's own corporate disease. However, based on a lot of experience, Ubisoft's failure to set bugs for players is a good reflection, and the optimization effect has also been improved a lot. However, after completing the main body, the subsequent DLC content is also a big expectation. Perhaps Ubisoft has already begun to prepare historical dramas like "Jack the Ripper" for players to challenge.

Conclusion: In general, "Far Cry: Primal" is indeed a prehistoric documentary for players to play and enjoy. Both the new FPS gameplay and the feeling of brutal killing are more mature than before. Although the story and BOSS battles need to be improved, the varied gameplay is a good answer given by Ubisoft to players.

There is no doubt that "The Division" is the Ubisoft masterpiece that players are most looking forward to today, but it seems that there is still some time before the official product is available. For players who are fans of masterpieces, "Far Cry: Primal" may be a good masterpiece to buy while waiting.
