When it comes to internet speed, we are never as patient as when we are trying to pick up girls. The technology developed by researchers from the two universities is called "Polaris", which can reduce the loading time of the entire web page by 34% by overlapping the download process of web page objects. " Current browsers can take up to 100 milliseconds to get a piece of data from a web page across a mobile network," said Ravi Netravali, a doctoral student who first published a paper on the Polaris system. "As web pages become more complex, they often require multiple round trips across the network, which causes web pages to load slowly. Our method can minimize the number of round trips, greatly improving loading speed. " A web page is made up of dozens of different "targets". Before the user enters a URL, the browser has no idea what the web page looks like. When it starts loading, the browser must fetch the "target" from the network and then decide where to put it on the web page. However, what complicates this process is that evaluating an object often means fetching and evaluating more objects, which is called "dependency", and the Polaris system can alleviate this "dependency". The best part of the system is that it is not limited to a certain browser. Researchers from the two universities hope to integrate the system directly into browsers in the future, so that it can be further optimized to allow everyone to experience a faster Internet.
