BYD recalls nearly 100,000 electric vehicles due to capacitor overheating and fire

According to the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. and BYD Auto Co., Ltd. have filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Management of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Management of Recall of Defective Automobile Products, and decided to recall the following vehicles from September 30, 2024:

① A total of 87,762 domestically produced Dolphin and Yuan PLUS electric vehicles produced between February 4, 2023 and December 26, 2023.

②A total of 8,952 domestically produced Yuan PLUS electric vehicles produced between November 2, 2022 and June 19, 2023.

Reason for recall: Due to the manufacturing process of the electric power steering column assembly (CEPS) controller of some vehicles, the upper cover of the equipment tooling interferes with the capacitor on the controller circuit board when it is closed, causing micro cracks in the capacitor. During vehicle use, the micro cracks in the capacitor may expand and cause a short circuit, causing the capacitor to overheat and burn, or even catch fire, posing a safety risk.

Solution: Free installation of controller insulation gaskets to eliminate safety hazards.
