Why is the car navigation always so ineffective?
With the rapid advancement of technology, mobile phones have long become an inseparable part of our daily lives. Of course, this has also spawned more and more "head-down tribes". Can you use your mobile phone while driving? This is definitely a big taboo! But why do a large proportion of car owners still use mobile phones for navigation in daily life, and even derive smart car machine solutions such as carplay? It still has to start with the poor performance of the in-car navigation... In life, many car owners are still entangled in this way or that. You say that although mobile phone navigation is easy to use, it can't stand it. It consumes electricity and traffic; although the in-car system looks more intuitive, if you are unfamiliar with the place, there are often mistakes, data updates are not timely, and the response is slow to miss the intersection. No one can stand it. Although carplay can more or less solve the urgent problem, everyone will definitely have similar questions. Why is the in-car navigation so difficult to use? Is there any point in buying a car with a navigation system? The so-called in-car navigation is generally based on the large screen in the car. Now it seems that it exists in three forms, namely front-mounted, quasi-front-mounted and rear-mounted navigation. So how to explain these three forms? Pre-installed means original, which refers to the configuration that has been installed in the car when it leaves the factory. Quasi-pre-installed means that it is not standard when it leaves the factory and is installed by the 4S store when the car is purchased. Post-installed means that the car owner can install it freely later. So why does the performance of the car navigation system not perform well? Let's analyze it in detail. 1. Poor networking capability and slow update speed . Speaking of networking capability, the most practical ones are real-time traffic conditions and congestion avoidance functions. These two are actually two basic skills required for modern navigation, but the premise for their realization is uninterrupted networking. If the car computer has poor networking capability, then this arduous task of avoiding congestion is undoubtedly a fantasy for it. The navigation data cannot be updated in time, which is another obvious disadvantage. It may be updated once every half a year. This is not a big deal. The trouble is that the speed of urban construction in China is amazing. It is possible that the original map data may be invalidated soon. If the data cannot keep up, navigation errors may occur, which is nothing more than a very bad experience for car owners. The most important thing is that if you go to a 4S shop to upgrade the map, it is not free in most cases. 2. Poor human-computer interaction experience I don't know if careful car owners have found that the design and function display of traditional in-car navigation interfaces are mostly the same, the operation logic is cumbersome, and the usage habits of domestic consumers are not fully investigated before the design. They just superimpose some impractical functions blindly, so the final user experience is definitely not much better. Many original navigation destination inquiries are very cumbersome. Not only do they not have the function of address association input, but they are also slow to respond when inputting, with many and complicated steps, and they often face the situation of not being able to find the destination or not being where they want to go after a long time, which further deepens people's dissatisfaction with in-car navigation. 3. Hardware limits the update and iteration of the system As we all know, compared with cars, the iteration frequency of smartphones is extremely fast. Mobile phones can basically achieve one iteration per year, and their service life is generally only one or two years. In contrast, most of the large parts inside the car are equivalent to the service life of the entire vehicle, so the hardware limitations prevent the system from being used to the highest generation. At the same time, the cost of developing any hardware for automobiles is quite high, so it takes a longer time for any new system to be installed on the car, which also causes things such as navigation that are updated frequently to always be in a relatively lagging state. 4. Consideration of driving safety After saying so much, everyone actually overlooked one point. Driving safety is also a very important thing. The overdevelopment of in-vehicle infotainment may cause the driver to be distracted. Once the driver is distracted by the in-vehicle system, it will inevitably cause great safety hazards. If an accident really occurs, the harm will be unimaginable. Therefore, if you have to make a trade-off between safety and entertainment and convenience, then safety is undoubtedly the first priority. So why can't car companies that are not short of money just do a good job of an in-vehicle navigation system? For a car company, the foundation of its existence is the car rather than the in-vehicle system, but for a mobile phone company, the system is the soul of the mobile phone. The investment of both in this part is self-evident. The in-vehicle operating system can be said to be a very small part of the entire development process of the vehicle. Car companies will not invest too much in research and development costs, and sometimes even outsource it to supporting suppliers. Therefore, compared with the huge investment of giant companies focusing on navigation, it is not surprising that there is a huge gap between the products produced by the two.
