Morgan Stanley: NVIDIA will account for 51% of AI chip wafers produced worldwide in 2024

Whether it is GPU gaming/professional graphics cards or GPU AI accelerators, NVIDIA is currently in a completely invincible state. However, in order to produce so many chips, the consumption of wafers is also huge.

According to Morgan Stanley's latest analysis report, NVIDIA alone will account for 51% of the AI chip wafers produced worldwide in 2024, and this proportion will reach an even more astonishing 77% in 2025! Other manufacturers are pitifully few. Google ranked second last year, but only 19%. Others are Amazon AWS 10%, AMD 9%, Tesla 5%, Chinese manufacturers 3%, and Microsoft 2.1%.

This year, everyone will shrink, with Google, Amazon, and AMD dropping to 10%, 7%, and 3% respectively, while Chinese manufacturers will be almost zero.

In terms of quantity, it is estimated that the number of 300mm standard wafers used to produce AI chips worldwide will reach 709,000 this year, with a total value of approximately US$14.57 billion.

NVIDIA itself will consume as many as 535,000 of them, with a unit price of about $20,900 (a medium level), for a total cost of $11.2 billion.

In terms of products, H100 and H200 consume 20,000 and 100,000 wafers respectively, B200 will require 220,000 wafers to start production, and the next generation B300 is expected to require 125,000 wafers.

AMD needs about 500,000 wafers, which will cost more than $1.4 billion. Among them, MI300 and MI325 total about 25,000 pieces, with a unit price of $25,200. The next-generation MI355 has 25,000 pieces, and the unit price rises to $32,000 , which is also the most expensive of all AI wafers.

Due to the limitations of advanced technology, Chinese manufacturers are expected to only use 7nm at most, and only 5,500 wafers will be used throughout the year, but the price is relatively cheap, less than US$19,000 per wafer.
