In 2024, AI venture capital investment hit an all-time high. Companies with AI at their core received $110 billion in investment. AI investment increased 62% year-over-year.

Venture capital investment in AI grew 62% between 2023 and 2024. Investment in other tech sectors fell 12% year over year.

In 2024, seven of the top nine funding rounds were raised by AI companies.

Artificial intelligence now accounts for one-third of global venture capital investment, more than double the amount two years ago.

The United States' attention to artificial intelligence is even higher than the global average; in 2024, 42% of U.S. venture capital will be raised by artificial intelligence startups.

In Europe, 25% of venture capital was raised by AI startups, compared to 18% in the rest of the world.

In 2024, U.S. startups received 74% of global AI venture capital.

China is the country with the second largest investment in AI in 2024, followed by the United Kingdom and France.

Generative AI is the biggest driver of AI investment growth. The average funding size for generative AI has achieved unprecedented growth, surpassing traditional AI and other tech sectors.

Regional comparison

The United States has raised more than 16 times as much funding in the generative AI industry as any other country.

The United Kingdom is the leading country in Europe, followed by France and Germany.

In 2024, every major country has turned to AI, with France leading the way (largely thanks to Mistral) and the UK and Germany also at the forefront in Europe.

The UK and France will dominate AI investment in Europe in 2024.

In the past two years, Europe has had the highest share of venture capital investment in AI at the application layer.

Distribution of artificial intelligence experts

The per capita density of AI experts among software engineers in Europe is 30% higher than in the United States and almost three times that of China.

London has nearly four times as many AI engineers as any other European city.

Dublin has the highest density of AI engineers, followed by Zurich.
