Apple applies for new patent: Future iPhone/Mac may be covered with titanium alloy
Isn't the aluminum body of the iPhone beautiful enough? But the next time you buy an iPhone, the body material may usher in a big change. A patent applied by Apple shows that the company plans to use new durable materials in future electronic products. The Apple patent documents published recently detail plans to use titanium, titanium alloys and "mixed plastics" in various products including iPhones, Macbooks and Apple Watches. Advantages of titanium Most Apple electronic products use aluminum alloy materials for the body and internal structure. Before the color coating is sprayed, the silver-gray appearance looks very tall. But the body with a darker appearance usually uses zirconium and its alloys, which are not only expensive but also difficult to process.

Titanium and its alloys can be easily "beautified" using physical vapor deposition. The higher toughness of titanium alloys is very helpful for space gray and glossy black iPhones, especially considering the paint peeling problem of glossy black iPhones. Plastic bonding improves waterproof performance Another Apple patent application details a method of improving future Apple electronic products by bonding plastics to porous metals. Users no longer need to wrap high-end products with an ugly plastic film. Apple's patent application describes a method of using thermoplastics to improve the waterproof performance of Apple products and seal the exposed parts of internal components. The patent application materials say, "The strength of the adhesive bonding the two materials may improve the impact resistance of electronic products to a certain extent, making the products stronger and more durable." These two patent applications sound promising. If Apple uses these two patent applications in production in the future, it may launch some very sturdy and attractive products.
