China Passenger Car Association: The total number of public charging piles in February 2025 will reach 3.83 million, a year-on-year increase of 64%

According to the data analysis of the China Charging Alliance compiled by the China Passenger Car Association, the total number of public charging piles in February 2025 reached 3.83 million , an increase of 72,000 from the previous month, 64% faster than the same period last year. At the same time, the number of private charging piles is also considerable, currently reaching 9.62 million.

Focusing on the situation in the first two months of this year, as of the end of February, the number of public charging piles has increased by 250,000 compared to the end of 2024, and the number of private charging piles has increased by 380,000 compared to the end of 2024, showing an overall good development momentum.

Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, said that according to the current calculation of 1 public charging pile = 3 private charging piles, the car-to-charging pile ratio of pure electric vehicles in China's incremental market in 2024 will be 1:1, which is absolutely several times ahead of other countries in the world.

However, as the charging pile industry develops rapidly, some problems that need to be solved have also been exposed. Cui Dongshu further added that the current public charging piles have problems such as incomplete coverage and insufficient utilization.

Specifically, in terms of highway service areas, 10% of service areas have not yet been covered by charging piles; and in rural areas, the coverage rate of charging infrastructure is even lower than 5% , which undoubtedly brings inconvenience to the use of new energy vehicles in relevant areas.

In addition, 64% of public DC charging piles are still low-voltage piles of 750V and below, which cannot support the development of high-voltage ultra-fast charging of 800V and above in the next stage.
