In 2024, the automobile throughput of Shanghai Port will reach 3.63 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 15%, ranking first in the world

Recently, according to media reports, the automobile throughput of Shanghai Port reached 3.63 million vehicles in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 15%, surpassing the Port of Antwerp Bruges in Belgium, and jumped to the first place in the world for the first time.

The automobile throughput of Shanghai Port includes import and export, domestic trade and bonded transit, among which import and export volume accounts for more than 60%.

The mainstay of Shanghai Port is the Haitong International Automobile Terminal located in the Waigaoqiao Port Area. Last year, it exported 1.298 million roll-on/roll-off vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 26.6%, and maintained a daily handling volume of more than 7,000 vehicles.

Last year, Nangang Port in the Lingang New Area exported more than 370,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 26%, of which nearly 70% were new energy vehicles.

In addition, the "bonded transit" business has risen rapidly. Since 2023, automobile companies such as India's Suzuki, South Korea's Kia, and Japan's Mazda have taken advantage of the Shanghai port to reduce logistics costs by 12% compared to traditional routes, and shorten time by about 25%.
