Qualcomm announces $40 million strategic investment in touch technology

Qualcomm held a press conference in Beijing today, officially announcing a strategic investment in Touch Technology. Touch Technology and three other companies will receive a total of US$40 million in venture capital funds from Qualcomm.

Chen Haozhi, founder and CEO of Touch Technology, said that after this round of financing from Qualcomm, the company will continue to adhere to its mission of "improving industry efficiency and reducing industry costs", continue to invest in cultivating the use habits of the open source engine Cocos 2d-x, and expand the "Cocos Developer Platform" in terms of technical support, brand building, and commercialization.

Qualcomm said, "Touch Technology focuses on the mobile entertainment industry and can provide a good complement to Qualcomm's existing products and services. After the financing cooperation is reached, Qualcomm will provide Touch Technology with full-scale support in finance, marketing, technology and business to help Touch Technology develop in the highly competitive wireless ecosystem."

In addition, in November this year, GungHo, a well-known Japanese online game company, announced the acquisition of part of the equity of Touch, planning to strengthen its cooperative relationship with Touch through this acquisition, and hoping to expand its market share in the fast-growing Asian market.

Cocos 2d-x is currently the most popular mobile engine product with the largest market share among global developers. About 70% of the top 100 best-selling games in China are developed using Cocos 2d-x. The engine is also widely used in South Korea and Japan, and has a high influence worldwide. Chukong Technology already has three complete business lines: game distribution, self-developed, and engine-based developer platforms. It provides game engines and tools to the global market for free and open source, and provides services to 500,000 developers in 200 countries and regions.
