Cocos 2d-x 2.2.6 gorgeous upgrade opens a new experience for 64-bit iOS

Recently, the open source game engine Cocos 2d-x has undergone another gorgeous transformation, and version 2.2.6 has been released. The new version of Cocos 2d-x has enabled perfect support for 64-bit iOS, which will bring developers a brand new development experience.

As we all know, from February 1, 2015, Apple officially requires that all iOS applications uploaded to the App Store must support 64-bit systems. Cocos 2d-x, currently the world's largest mobile game engine, has now officially launched perfect support for 64-bit iOS in the Cocos 2d-x 2.2.6 version update, adding 64-bit versions of third-party libraries to solve compatibility issues on the 64-bit platform, helping developers easily cope with Apple's mandatory measures to promote 64-bit, and taking the lead in entering the increasingly mature 64-bit world.

In September 2014, the launch of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus made many Apple fans crazy, especially the high-efficiency processing performance brought by the 64-bit processors - larger memory, faster computing, more efficient operation, and the refreshing experience presented to users by various features is not enough to be described as smooth. With the advent of more and more 64-bit processors, the 64-bit world will gradually mature. Cocos 2d-x 2.2.6 version update opens support for 64-bit iOS, which can help developers take advantage of Apple's carefully built "speed spaceship" to create a more enjoyable gaming experience.

Except for Cocos 2d-x 2.2.6, all versions above Cocos 2d-x 3.0 perfectly support 64-bit systems, so developers can use them with confidence. Since LuaJIT lacks a 64-bit version, use Lua in 64-bit architectures and LuaJIT in 32-bit architectures. It should be noted that the bytecodes of Lua and LuaJIT are incompatible, so programs based on Lua need to use Lua source code. However, developers can rest assured that cocos 2d-x provides the xxtea method to encrypt Lua source code to protect the security of Lua code. Of course, for products on non-iOS platforms, developers can continue to use LuaJIT.

In addition to the major update of supporting 64-bit iOS, Cocos 2d-x has fixed three important bugs in this version update: crash when playing background music on Android 5.0; incorrect display position of EditBox on iOS 8; and inability to obtain the correct window size on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Keeping pace with the times, Cocos 2d-x has been committed to providing developers with better services and technical support.

According to the forecast report of Newzoo, a Dutch game market research company, mobile games will replace console games and become the largest market in 2015. In 2014, Cocos 2d-x witnessed the launch of "Dota Legend", which shocked the entire industry, and also witnessed the birth of many excellent products such as "Let Go of the Three Kingdoms", "Blade of the Three Kingdoms" and "Legend of Sword and Fairy". In 2015, Cocos 2d-x hopes to help more developers write new legendary chapters in the high-speed 64-bit world.
