In response to the one-hour outage on Facebook and Instagram this afternoon Beijing time, a hacker group issued a statement claiming responsibility for the outage, but Facebook officially denied it. Starting from 6:00 GMT on January 27 (14:00 Beijing time on January 27) this afternoon, there was a malfunction when logging into Facebook. The page displayed: "Sorry, there is a malfunction. We are currently repairing it and it will be fixed as soon as possible."
The Facebook outage affected parts of Europe, America, and Asia. In addition to Facebook, Facebook's photo-sharing website also encountered a malfunction on the desktop - the screen went blank, and the mobile version could not be refreshed.

The above failure lasted for about 1 hour.

In response to the outage, a Twitter account speaking for the hacker group Lizard Squad posted a message saying that the group launched an attack that temporarily blocked services such as Facebook and Instagram.

Lizard Squad has previously issued statements claiming responsibility for a number of high-profile cyber attacks, such as the outages of Sony's multimedia platform PlayStation Network service and Microsoft's Xbox Live service last month.

However, Facebook officially issued a statement saying that today's Facebook and Instagram outages were caused by internal technical problems and had nothing to do with third-party attacks.

"This outage was not related to a third-party attack. The outage occurred because we made a small change to our system settings (causing a technical failure). Currently, both Facebook and Instagram have restored 100% service," Facebook said in a statement.
