iOS 8 has a penetration rate of 82%, while Android 5.0 has only 1.6%.

According to Apple's App Store support page for developers, the company's latest mobile operating system, iOS 8, has now been installed on 72% of iOS devices. iOS 8 was released in September 2014, and it has been five months since then.

The installation penetration rate has increased by 9 percentage points since mid-December last year, and by 3 percentage points since January 20 this year. iOS 8.1.3 was released at the end of last month. As the penetration rate of iOS 8 increased, the number of iOS 7 device users also dropped to 25%, of which 3% of iOS users are still using earlier iOS versions. The penetration rate of iOS 8 is slower than that of iOS 7. As of January 2014, the penetration rate of iOS 7 was as high as 80%, while the penetration rate of iOS 8 was only 69% in January this year. A possible explanation is that the upgrade to iOS 8 requires more storage space. The visual style of iOS 7 has changed a lot, which may also be the main reason for attracting users to upgrade quickly.

Apple has released iOS 8.1, iOS 8.1.1, iOS 8.1.2 and iOS 8.1.3, which are patches to fix the bugs in iOS 8. In order to allow users to upgrade faster, Apple also reminds customers that they can use iTunes to update to iOS 8, which does not consume a lot of storage space. Although the popularity of iOS 8 is lower than that of iOS 7, Apple is still far ahead of Android.

The latest version of Android is 5.0, codenamed Lollipop. This operating system was released in November last year, and only 1.6% of Android devices have completed the update. Most Android users are still running KitKat, which was released in October 2013, or Jelly Bean, which was released in June 2012. Due to the large number of Android user brands in the market, Android upgrades must be specially optimized by operators and mobile phone manufacturers before they can be launched to customers.
