iOS 9 public beta launches smart prediction/power saving mode

In the early morning of July 10th, Beijing time, Apple officially released the public beta version of iOS 9. All iPhone 4s (inclusive) and iPad 2 (inclusive) and above users can obtain this update via OTA.

Starting with iOS 8.3, Apple officially launched a national public beta program, and the Beta internal testing phase was significantly reduced. iOS 9 was reduced from at least 6 Beta internal testing phases to 3 Beta phases, and the public beta version was released after Beta3. In other words, the public beta version released this time can be understood as iOS 9 Beta4 to a certain extent, but the official clearly stated that there is a difference between the public beta and Beta versions.

The system is more intelligent

In fact, I came into contact with iOS 9 at an early stage. Different from what many people imagined, this version gave me the biggest feeling that it became smarter because it introduced the function of intelligent prediction. I think this is one of the biggest changes since the birth of iOS system.

For example, plugging in headphones or connecting to Bluetooth will automatically launch commonly used music software, frequently used contacts will be suggested when searching, email invitations will be automatically added to schedules, and even frequently used contacts will be automatically suggested based on the subject of your email. The coolest thing is that when there is an incoming call from an unfamiliar number, the system will identify the possible caller. However, these automated functions are based on your frequent use of the device, and there is actually a lot of room for imagination in this part.

In addition, you can also find an obvious change in the interface. When you swipe left on the main interface of the first screen, the search interface is usually displayed, but in iOS 9, the smart prediction function is entered. In addition to search, it also lists frequently used contacts and commonly used software, and it will change dynamically with the frequency of use. I personally think this change is also very practical.

New features and applications are launched one after another

At the WWDC15 conference, iOS 9 was unveiled. The overall UI remains consistent with iOS. Optimized features such as split-screen display, maps, memos and multitasking, as well as a smarter voice assistant Siri and global search function all made their debut. Some of these changes will appear in the iOS 9 public beta version.

The intelligent performance of Siri voice assistant is mainly reflected in its powerful content retrieval and management. It supports fast and automatic organization of historical documents, providing content and services to users according to different usage scenarios, matching incoming calls and contacts, recommending related content, and even searching for content in third-party applications. In terms of specific usage scenarios, Siri can automatically organize historical photos, historical email exchanges with contacts, open the iTunes music application when the power is plugged in during fitness applications, and deeply search for content in third-party applications, such as looking for recipes.

In the past few years, the experience of iOS's built-in official maps has been continuously optimized. iOS 9 also introduced a commuting route function called "Transit", which can provide users with a complete commuting route from walking to taking a car. This function covers cities such as Beijing, New York, and London. The largest map application already supports bus navigation services in more than 300 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi'an, Hangzhou, and Zhengzhou.

The split-screen function of iOS 9 supports iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3, allowing two different applications to work on the screen at the same time. The interface can be selected in two ratios of 5:5 and 7:3, and users can switch the program on a certain screen by themselves.

In addition, in terms of optimization and adjustments to the memo, the new memo application, in addition to the original text input, can also perform functions such as doodles and insert photos.

Battery life can be extended by 3 hours

It is worth mentioning that iOS 9 first introduced a low-power mode to provide users with longer battery life. The official data is that it can be extended by 3 hours. In addition, although iOS 9's low power mode enhances battery life, it comes at the cost of suspending the background operation of some functions, such as email collection, background application refresh, dynamic effects and dynamic wallpapers.

Supported by iPhone 4s and iPad 2 and above

In the past few versions, Apple has received a lot of recognition for the compatibility of the iOS operating system with older devices. The public beta version of iOS9 will also continue the previous management of compatibility with older devices. From the announced content, devices including iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad 2, iPad 3rd gen, iPad 4th gen, iPad Air, and iPad Air 2 can all be upgraded to the iOS 9 operating system.

In addition, since Apple has not clarified the compatibility of iOS 9 with older devices, it remains to be confirmed whether older devices such as the iPhone 4s can obtain the full iOS 9 system functions.

The official version will be launched in September

At WWDC15, Apple officially clarified the schedule for iOS 9. Beta 1 will be released on the day of the conference, the public beta will be released in July, and the official version will be released in the fall. Currently, the progress of each version is proceeding according to the schedule. If nothing unexpected happens, the fall mentioned by Apple should be the annual fall new product release conference in September.
