Microsoft CEO: If OEMs don't make Lumia phones, we'll do it ourselves

Since the market share has not increased, many fans are worried whether Windows Phone phones will be unavailable in the market in the future. Now there is good news. Recently, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in an interview at the backstage of the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference that if OEM manufacturers stop producing Windows Phone phones in the future, Microsoft will produce them itself. Regardless of who will produce the phones in the future, Microsoft will be committed to making these models cover three ranges: entry-level models, enterprise-level models, and high-end flagship models.

Nadella also pointed out that developers' willingness to launch universal apps actually has nothing to do with Windows Phone, because the current share of Windows Phone is less than 3%, so the real purpose of developers is for the desktop. As long as the app is placed on the desktop, developers can promote it anywhere there is a "Start" menu. Nadella used Airbnb as an example, saying that he could understand why the company prioritized developing apps for the desktop and Xbox when the share of Windows Phone was so low.

"Universal apps are being developed because developers want them on the desktop. The reason developers are willing to develop universal apps is not because Windows Phone has less than 3% market share, but because there are 1 billion users who use the start menu with apps. Once you start developing, you can take them everywhere, use them on HoloLens, use them on Xbox. Take Airbnb, for example, they are more willing to develop apps for the desktop and Xbox than for the 3% market share of the system."

Nadella also said that one of the biggest problems in Windows 8 was the problem of app discovery, so Windows 10 will "continue to retain the app store, while discovering apps in a more reasonable way."
