Comparison of the latest shipments of Android and iPhone to see their system market share

Recently, the statistics agency Statista released the market share and global shipment comparison of all mobile operating systems from the first quarter of 2009 to the second quarter of 2016, and also counted the shipment differences of various mobile phone brands in different time periods. The data shows that as of the second quarter of 2016, the market share of Android phones has reached 86.2%, a record high. In other words, out of 100 mobile phones, more than 86 are Android.

iOS ranked second with a share of 12.9%, and WP has dropped to 0.6%, less than one percent.

In sharp contrast, in the first quarter of 2009, Android's market share was only 1.6%, iOS was 10.5%, and the then dominant Symbian system had a share of 48.8%, nearly half.

From this we can also see that in these 7 years, Android has almost killed all mobile operating systems except iOS, while iOS has developed steadily. Although there have been ups and downs, it has generally maintained a market share of 10-20% without major ups and downs.

In terms of shipments, in the second quarter of 2016, Android phones sold 296.91 million units, iPhones sold 44.4 million units, WP sold 1.97 million units, and BlackBerry sold only a pitiful 400,000 units.

In terms of brand shipments in the second quarter of 2016, Samsung shipped 77 million units, Apple shipped 40.4 million units, Huawei shipped 32.1 million units, OPPO shipped 22.6 million units, and vivo shipped 16.4 million units.
