If you want to save all the faces of your loved ones on iPhone X, you will be disappointed. Why doesn't Apple do this? It has its own theory. We all know that Apple's fingerprint recognition system Touch ID can recognize information from five fingers, and if you use some tricks, it can even store up to 25 fingers - of course, this is not very practical. However, when it comes to iPhone X's Face ID, you can only store your own face information, no more.
This may make some users feel unhappy, because if a family member wants to use his phone, they have to come over and ask him to "scan his face" every time, which is very troublesome. Why can't Apple allow the iPhone X to store data for even one more face? Apple's initial answer was a bit irrelevant. Apple said that when using Touch ID, even if you hold the phone with one hand, you can still use the thumb, index finger or middle finger of both hands to unlock the device. Therefore, at that time, Touch ID allowed a full 5 spaces to store different fingerprint data, making it convenient for people to use any of these fingers to pass the verification. However, in the era of Face ID, no matter which hand the user holds the phone with, he can only use the first face to use Face ID. Therefore, Apple does not intend to give space for people to store more facial information, because this is enough. There are indeed decisive differences between Touch ID and Face ID in terms of usage, which Apple has explained clearly. But the problem is just as I said before, some users may need to let others unlock their phones. In response to this, Apple threw out their survey data. Apple said that according to survey data, even in the Touch ID era, the number of people who actually allow others to log in to their iPhones with their fingerprint information is negligible. In Apple's view, the iPhone is a very personal device that most people use mainly for themselves. So since facial recognition is not like fingerprint recognition, where people can use multiple fingers to unlock, there is no need to set up more storage space for Face ID. If we only consider it from the perspective of security, Apple's arrangement makes sense. After all, even with the previous Touch ID devices, few people would actually log in multiple fingerprints - if they want to share, everyone can just remember a unified password. Face ID can only store one person's facial data, which can avoid a lot of trouble from a broader perspective. Of course, there are so many iPhone users, so we can't say that not everyone will have such a need. However, Apple has made up its mind in this regard, and iPhone X users have no choice but to adapt. So as an individual, do iPhone users have such a need? |
