Judging from the current situation, the three operators are all trying their best to promote 5G networks, which will not be commercially available in China until 2020. However, before formal commercial use, it is very important to change the 5G network frequency band. According to a report from China Securities Journal, the 5G spectrum division plan has been preliminarily determined. China Mobile will obtain a total of 300MHz spectrum resources in the 2.6GHz and 4.9GHz frequency bands; China Telecom and China Unicom will each obtain 100MHz spectrum resources near the 3.5GHz frequency band. According to industry experts, judging from the global 5G spectrum distribution, the 3.5GHz band has the greatest feasibility for global use and is more economical than 4.9GHz. A rough estimate shows that the cost of building a base station in the 4.9GHz band will be 1.5 times that of 3.5GHz, so only China Mobile can shoulder this important task. The reason why the 3.5GHz frequency band is the most feasible for global use is that the lower the transmission rate, the higher the signal wavelength, the higher the ability to penetrate obstacles, and the wider the coverage of the base station. In other words, the fewer base stations are needed per unit area, and the lower the investment cost. So from the current situation, the 200MHz spectrum resources of 3.4GHz-3.6GHz have become the object of fierce competition among the three operators, and the official 5G spectrum allocation plan will be released as early as September.
