What issues do you need to consider when you first start UI design?

For newcomers who are new to the UI field, in addition to mastering the necessary skills, it is also important to understand the entire design process if you want to get started as soon as possible. Today, let’s talk about the 7 steps of taking orders for reference:

What does UI do? Let’s talk about the workflow of UI: product/interaction/design. In other words, we usually receive interaction drafts.

At this time, when the UI sees an interactive design, what needs to be considered is:

  1. Is this arrangement reasonable (for example, can the 960-inch screen and the 1136-inch screen accommodate enough key design information)
  2. Where is the focus of the information?
  3. What kind of user group is it?

The analysis is all your own business. In addition, the interactive draft we usually get is like this:

The output requirement is this:

Then we have to fill the gaps and gaps ourselves. After solving the above problems, we started to work on UI design:

1. Starting from product requirements, what main color should we consider?

For example, for group buying, Nuomi uses pink, while Meituan uses emerald green. So when designing the UI, we must first consider the main color.

2. What colors are used for matching and auxiliary colors ?

While considering the product's temperament and brand color, we often have to consider the auxiliary color that complements the main color of the product. The strategies for using auxiliary colors are different for different products, such as adjacent colors, contrasting colors, etc. These are all ways we choose auxiliary colors.

3. What style should be used to express it?

Now, when it comes to style, it's flat style. But there are differences in flatness. For example, the following pictures are also flat. But the left picture has some light and shadow, while the right picture is pure flat. Can you say which one is better or worse? No.

The same information can be expressed in different ways in UI. So you can only consider what style you need to use in your specific UI design. These are all UI work contents.

4. What style of icon painting?

Even though they are all settings, discovery, and homepage, different apps have many subtle differences even though their basic structures are the same.

Whether to use rounded icons or right angles, whether to use planes or lines, what is the design language logic behind it, and what is the design purpose, all of which need to be considered by UI designers.

For example, although both are Tencent products, the icons of QQ Mobile and WeChat are completely different. The reason is that the products are targeting different groups of people, and QQ Mobile is more youthful.

Similarly, the chat icons of Momo, Laiwang, and Yixin are all different. This requires UI designers to draw them with little details.

5. How to express emotional design?

We often need to consider emotional design on some detail pages to improve the quality of the app and reduce users’ frustration in abnormal situations.

At the same time, good designers will also consider how to guide users to solve problems in order to meet product demands. Different products have different methods and styles when doing emotional design. These also need to be handled by UI design.

6. How to create dynamic effects?

Because mobile phone interaction is dynamic, if we can use dynamic effect design in some jump pages, it will undoubtedly be a good way to add points to the entire app.

7. Icons that cause headaches

Ten thousand people have ten thousand answers, so how to do it specifically still needs to consider details such as users, scenarios, and needs. Products can provide directions, but the specific implementation still needs to be completed by UI designers.

8. Adaptation and cutting

This is a perennial topic. You don’t just want to make something that looks good, you want it to be usable and developable. You have to consider iPhone 4567, and different Android 720/1280/1920. Some companies even have to consider certain screens.

In some small companies, UI has to consider the interaction issues with the product. At this time, UI often needs to have good interaction design capabilities while having sufficient visual design capabilities. If you don’t have these skills, you need to improve yourself. That’s all for today.
