Mobile payment ranking: WeChat first, Alipay second, Apple Pay fourth

According to data shared by Merchant Machine, a credit card rate comparison service, China has become the most mobile payment-friendly country in the world, helped by the popularity of WeChat Pay and Alipay. Norway is close behind, and the United Kingdom ranks third, all behind the United States.

The ranking released by Merchant Machine shows that 47% of Chinese consumers now use mobile wallets to pay bills, with the highest penetration rate in the world; followed by Norway at 42%, which is quite high for a country with a population of only about 5.2 million, and higher than other European countries; the third place is the United Kingdom, where 24% of smartphone users use mobile payment apps. The United States ranks seventh, with only 17% of people using mobile wallets.

In the Asia-Pacific region, many countries are among the top ten. In addition to China, Japan ranks fourth with a penetration rate of 20%; Australia ranks fifth with a penetration rate of 19%; and Singapore ranks eighth with 17%.

The mobile payment system with the most users is WeChat Pay, which ranks first with 600 million users. Alipay is second, with 400 million users. PayPal ranks third, with 210 million users. Apple Pay ranks fourth with 87 million users. Samsung Pay attracts 34 million users, ranking fifth.
