Google hires macOS veteran to develop Fuchsia OS: accelerate replacement of Android/Chrome OS

As early as 2016, clues that Google was secretly developing the Fuchsia operating system were first exposed. Although Google has not officially acknowledged the project, its outline has gradually become clear. In short, Fuchsia OS is a cross-platform system that can run on mobile phones, tablets and even PCs. It abandons the Linux kernel and is based on the Zircon microkernel, written in the Flutter engine + Dart language.

There have been reports that 2020~2021 will be the time node for the final debut of Fuchsia OS. It seems that Google is pushing it forward intensively.

According to foreign media reports, Google has hired Bill Stevenson, a senior engineer with 14 years of experience, to manage Fuchsia, with the goal of pushing it into mature markets.

Stevenson started working at Apple in 2004 as a programmer on OS X. Four years later, he was promoted to senior technical manager, managing My Mac, iCloud for Mac, AirDrop, etc. Since 2012, Stevenson has been a senior manager of Mac/Windows projects. In the past year, Stevenson has participated in the detailed construction of each version of Mojave.

It seems that Android and Chrome OS will both be replaced in the Fuchsia OS era.

In the AOSP open source community, Google Pixel 2, Honor Play, etc. have already done early testing based on Fuchsia. The picture shows Fuchsia running on Pixel C, which is very basic.
