The recently released "Special Report on Judicial Big Data: Characteristics and Trends of Cybercrime" mentioned that in 2018, WeChat surpassed QQ to become the most frequently used tool in cyber fraud crimes, and more than half of the cyber fraud cases involved criminal plots of fraud committed through WeChat. According to Tencent's official data, in the third quarter of 2019, the combined monthly active account numbers of WeChat and WeChat were 1.151 billion , a year-on-year increase of 6%, and the monthly active account numbers of QQ smart terminals were 653.4 million, a year-on-year decrease of 6%. The report also stated that from 2016 to 2018, more than 48,000 cybercrime cases had been concluded, and the number of cases and their proportion in the total number of criminal cases have shown an increasing trend year by year. The number of cases increased significantly in 2018, with a year-on-year increase of 50.91%. Most cybercrime cases are located in the southeast coastal areas. The total number of cybercrime cases tried by courts in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing accounts for only 6.81%, while the proportion of cases using Internet means in ten places including Fujian, Zhejiang and Shanxi exceeds the national average. |
