What is the difference between blacklisting and deleting? WeChat official answer is here

I believe that many readers who use WeChat have blocked someone, not to mention deleting a friend. Although blocking and deleting can both have the effect of refusing to receive messages from the other party, what are the specific similarities and differences? After blocking and deleting, can I still send and receive messages? Are the chat records still there? Can I add them again? Does the other party know that I have blocked/deleted them?

In order to answer this long-standing mystery, on December 4, the official Weibo account of Tencent WeChat team explained the difference between blocking and deleting.

Q: Can I still send and receive messages?

Answer: Blacklist - you can send messages to the other party, but the other party can only receive the messages but cannot reply.

Delete - Neither party can send messages.

Q: Are the chat records still available?

Answer: Blocked - the chat history is still there.

Delete——Clear the chat history.

Q: Can I add friends again?

Answer: Blacklist - Remove the blacklist to restore the friendship.

Delete - You can add the user back from the shared group chat without the other party receiving a notification. You can also add the user back by re-verifying the group.

Q: Does the other party know that I have been blocked/deleted?

Answer: Blacklist - When the other party sends you a message, you will receive a prompt: The message has been sent, but rejected by the other party.

Delete - When the other party sends you a message, you will receive a prompt: Friend verification is turned on, and you are not his (her) friend yet. You can also add him (her) back through verification again.
