CCTV reminds: Don’t use the WeChat “cleaning fans” APP anymore!

On November 12, Tencent released its Q3 financial report showing that the combined monthly active account numbers of WeChat and WeChat were 1.21 billion. The total number of Internet users in China is only 940 million, which means that there is more than one WeChat account per person, making it absolutely a national-level application.

The number of WeChat friends is increasing, but some of them are rarely contacted. Therefore, some so-called WeChat "cleaning fans" services came into being.

WeChat fan cleaning is achieved by controlling the software to send group messages to all friends to determine which ones are "zombie fans" and automatically delete these "zombie fans" to achieve the "fan cleaning" operation.

However, this method may threaten your information security. According to CCTV reports, recently, the police in Cangnan, Zhejiang Province, cracked a case of using WeChat "cleaning fans" software to illegally control other people's computer systems, and initially found that the amount involved in the case exceeded 8 million yuan.

A WeChat user used a so-called "cleaning fans" software. Just after using this service, he found that a large number of strangers asked to add him as a friend and followed many WeChat public accounts.

What’s even more frightening is that some people imitated her WeChat account to add relatives in an attempt to defraud them of their money and property.

Professionals have found that this type of "cleaning fans" program is different from ordinary WeChat plug-ins. The suspects developed a "cloud" program compatible with WeChat to carry out subsequent operations. The key point of risk is the link of scanning the code to authorize login.

Experts remind that the latest services such as "help you modify your WeChat exercise step count" and "help you send very large files on WeChat" are essentially WeChat plug-in programs that aim to gain control of user accounts, so you also need to be vigilant.

Recently, Yang Jian, a security expert from Tencent Guardian Program, said that it is up to the users to decide who to keep and who to delete, which means that there will not be an official fan cleaning function for the time being.
