We know that with Android 10, users can easily share WiFi passwords in the form of QR codes using the Wi-Fi Easy Connect protocol. Although this is a relatively simple and secure way to share, it still has some shortcomings. Fortunately, Google is working on an easier way to share WiFi passwords, which may debut in the upcoming Android 12. Sharing WiFi passwords on Android 10+ is very simple. Users only need to go to the network details page of the WiFi network and click "Share". A QR code will pop up that others can scan. You can also click "Add device" to scan the QR code on someone else's device and add it to the network. Scanning QR codes is still a bit cumbersome, and Google is working on a new solution that will allow users to more easily share generated QR codes with others using the company's "Nearby Share" feature. A new commit submitted to AOSP by Google engineer Abel Tesfaye aims to tweak the "Share Wi-Fi" page to provide a Nearby Share button. When clicked, the default Nearby Share component is launched so that users can share QR codes with people nearby. Since Nearby Share works at close range but does not require physical contact or scanning of any QR codes, it means users can share WiFi passwords in different rooms. Since this commit has not been merged yet, it is not certain whether this feature will appear in Android 12. IT Home learned that the first Android 12 developer preview may be released sometime next month. |
