Is the amount of study you insist on every day 365 times or 365 times?

Is the amount of study you insist on every day 365 times or 365 times?

I believe everyone remembers that when we were in school, many teachers liked to use 1.01 to the power of 365 and 0.99 to the power of 365 to prove that we should persist in making progress every day. At work, the boss may also use this method to spur everyone on and improve their work enthusiasm. But is this really in line with reality? Let's talk about it today.

01. What kind of curve is 1.01^365?

I made a graph out of boredom ( the amount of quantitative learning that is persisted every day is not 365 times but 365 times, so the teacher's argument is wrong )

The so-called 1.01^365th power, the curve looks like this:

So, you won't feel that flying feeling, at least for a long time.

02. Quantifying 1.01^365 from a time perspective

Purely quantified in terms of time (because it is easy to quantify): assuming that a person is purely studying, excluding the time for sleeping, eating, going to and from get out of class, going to the bathroom, etc., and of course including the time you take naps and get distracted, the estimated upper limit is about 12 hours, or 720 minutes.

So, if you calculate the progress method of 1.01 every day for 365 days, your starting time is 19.05597 minutes.

In other words, if before this, you only studied for more than 19 minutes a day, and then increased your study time by 1% every day, your study time will reach 12 hours after one year.

But the good times won’t last long. If you continue to increase your efforts by 1% every day, then on the 434th day, your study time will reach 24 hours.

If you go further down, you can only change to another planet (for example, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Pluto in the picture below have a longer day) or run to a black hole, because the earth rotates in less than 24 hours.

So, if you studied for 19 minutes a day before, and increased by 1% every day, after 365 days, your study time will be 12 hours a day, and after 434 days, your study time will be 24 hours a day, reaching the limit of the earth's rotation period. At this time, some netizens said, what if we lower the starting point? Let's lower the starting point to prove it.

03. What about starting from a lower level?

We lower the starting point, for example, if you study for 1 minute on the first day, then after the first 365 days, your data is 37.78343 minutes; after 730 days in the second year, your data is 1427.588 minutes, which is 23.7833 hours, close to the Earth's rotation period. If it happens to be a leap year, unfortunately, your study time will become 1441.864 minutes, equivalent to 24.03106, which exceeds the Earth's rotation period.

Therefore, 1.01^365 in time is not so easy to achieve. It depends largely on your starting time. But even if you start with 1 minute, after two years, your learning time will have exceeded the limit of the earth.

04. On the other hand, what about the growth rate of 0.99?

Suppose you start out as a study maniac, and study for 12 hours a day excluding eating, drinking, defecating, urinating, napping and daydreaming, which is 720 minutes. Then after one year, you can only study for 18 minutes.

Keep going and you will be on day 654 with learning time under 1 minute.

In this case, you basically don't even need to say hello to the teacher, you just dropped out of school and stayed at home. As for learning efficiency and the like, it is difficult to evaluate and quantify.

Finally, as for what many people say, persist every day, this is not a power calculation, but a multiple relationship, such as "exercise for one hour every day, work healthily for fifty years, and live happily for a lifetime"
