Apple iOS 14.5/iPadOS 14.5 official version released: iPhone 12 5G optimization, AirTag "Find", App tracking transparency, iPhone 11

IT Home reported on April 27 that one week after Apple’s spring new product launch conference, Apple began pushing the latest Apple iOS 14.5/iPadOS 14.5 official version early this morning. The version number is 18E199, which is the same as last week’s iOS 14.5 RC preview version.

Apple introduced that iOS 14.5 includes the option to unlock the iPhone with Apple Watch while wearing a mask, adds support for AirTag, supports selecting different skin colors for couple emojis, and App Tracking Transparency allows you to control which apps can track your activities in other companies' apps and websites.

Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch

• When trying to use Face ID while wearing a mask, you can unlock iPhone X and later models with Apple Watch Series 3 and later models

AirTags and Find My

• Support for AirTags to privately and securely track and find your important items, such as keys, wallets, and backpacks, in the Find My app

• Pinpoint Finding uses ultra-wideband technology powered by the U1 chip on iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 models to guide you directly to a nearby AirTag using visual, auditory, and haptic feedback.

• AirTag's built-in speaker can be used to play sound for positioning

• The Find My network helps you find your AirTag across hundreds of millions of devices, even when it’s not nearby

• Lost Mode notifies you when your AirTag is found, and lets you enter a contact phone number

Emoticons

• Support for selecting skin color for each person in all kissing couple emojis and heart couple emojis

• New facial emojis, heart emojis, and bearded female emojis

Siri

• Use Siri with AirPods or compatible Beats headphones to announce incoming calls and who’s calling, and answer them hands-free

• Support for starting a group FaceTime chat by asking Siri to make a FaceTime call to a group of contacts or a Messages group name

• Let Siri call emergency contacts

• App Tracking Transparency lets you control which apps can track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites to serve ads or share with data brokers

Apple Music

• Share your favorite lyrics through Messages, Facebook, and Instagram Stories, and subscribers can play clips in Messages without leaving the conversation

• The city chart shows popular music in major cities

podcast

• The redesigned Podcasts Show Page makes it easier to start listening

• Option to save and download episodes to automatically add them to your Library for quick access

• Download behavior and notification settings customizable on a per-show basis

• Top charts and popular categories in Search help you discover new shows

5G Improvements

• Smart Data Mode improvements deeply optimize 5G network usage on iPhone 12 models, bringing better battery life and data usage experience

• 5G international roaming available on iPhone 12 models with supported carriers

• Use Siri on iPhone or CarPlay to report accidents, hazardous road conditions, or road construction along your route

• Share your ETA not only when you’re driving, but also when you’re biking or walking: Ask Siri to share it for you, or tap the route card at the bottom of the screen and tap Share ETA

Reminders

• Sort reminders by Title, Priority, Due Date, or Creation Date

• Added option to print reminder list

translate

• Long press the play button to adjust the playback speed of the translation

Play games

• Supports Xbox Series X|S wireless controller or Sony PS5 DualSense wireless controller

CarPlay

• Easily share your arrival time from Apple Maps while driving using new Siri or keyboard controls in CarPlay

This update also fixes the following issues:

• In some cases, the information at the bottom of the conversation may be obscured by the keyboard

• Deleted posts may still appear in Spotlight searches

• Messages may not always be able to send text in some conversations

• Some users are unable to load new emails in Mail until they restart their device

• The Call Blocking & Identification section may not appear in Phone settings

• iCloud tabs may not appear in Safari

• iCloud Keychain may not be turned off

• Reminders created through Siri may be accidentally set for the early morning hours

• The battery health reporting system will recalibrate the maximum battery capacity and peak performance capacity of iPhone 11 models to address an issue with inaccurate battery health reporting estimates experienced by some users (https://support.apple.com/HT212247)

• Optimized to reduce low light that may appear when displaying black backgrounds at low brightness on iPhone 12 models

• AirPods' Auto-Switching sends audio to the wrong device

• AirPods "Auto Switch" notification may not appear or appear repeatedly
