Google officially starts testing Fuchsia OS: first-generation Nest Hub users please pay attention

Google spent a lot of time developing the Fuchsia operating system from scratch, and now it can finally run on Google's own devices (the first generation Nest Hub). 9to5Google reported that, like the previous "Cast OS" based on the Linux kernel, this update will not bring any functional updates to the Nest Hub, which was first launched in 2018. The main reason is that the experience of this smart display is built on Flutter, which aims to bring applications consistently to multiple platforms including Fuchsia.

9to5Google has been tracking the development of the Fuchsia project since 2016, from an ambitious experimental user interface (UI) to being tested on many of Google's internal hardware, including Google's entire product line such as smart home and Chromebook.

After years of setbacks, the Fuchsia operating system project has gradually stabilized and has even had a stable release schedule recently.

For example, at the beginning of the month, we discovered that the first-generation Google Nest Hub running Fuchsia 1.0 had received new approval from the Bluetooth Alliance, indicating that Google has expanded from internal testing to the wider public domain.

At that time, we thought it would be a way for developers to easily try out the new operating system, but as the I/O 2021 conference came to an end, it was known that Google was still making more ambitious new plans.

It is reported that the Nest Hub update based on Fuchsia will be launched in the next few months, first in the preview update channel, and then in a wider push.

Considering that the system interface and interactive experience have not changed, many Nest Hub users will not even realize that their devices have switched to Fuchsia OS.
