Google Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 released for Pixel phones

Google Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 released for Pixel phones

On March 16, following the launch of QPR2, Google today pushed Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 to Pixel phones.

Android 13 QPR3 will be released to consumers in June and will be the last major quarterly update of Android 13. Google previously hinted that it would not publicly test QPR3, but would directly upgrade from Android 13 QPR2 Beta to Android 14 Beta.

Unlike developer previews and betas, which are unreleased versions of Android, these builds are intended for general use.

For those in the current Android Beta program, QPR3 will likely only have a Beta version, as Google says the preview will "continue until the start of Android 14 Beta." Android 14 Beta 1 is expected to be released in April.

If you are participating in the QPR3 Beta test, you will automatically receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 14 Beta 1 when it becomes available. No separate opt-in is required.

If users have opted in to the Beta program for QPR2, they do not need to do anything to get QPR3 immediately. However, if users want to go back without wiping their device data, they can opt out and wait for the stable March (QPR2) update by ignoring QPR3 Beta 1.

Important fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where the clock text on the lock screen was the wrong color.
  • Fixed an issue with Bluetooth audio not working properly on some devices.
  • Fixed an issue where the fingerprint icon that normally appears on the screen to indicate the location of the fingerprint sensor incorrectly changes to an exclamation point (!).
  • Fixed an issue where live wallpapers could not be selected or used.
  • Fixed an issue where widgets, app icon positions, and other configurable options on the Home screen were reset after installing an OTA update.
  • Fixed an issue that caused devices to unregister from face unlock after installing an OTA update.

The following known issues exist:

  • If the user tries to open the camera by pressing the power button twice, the camera displays a black screen.
  • In some cases, the device restarts when turning the work profile on or off.
  • The Recent Apps list would sometimes become unresponsive if the screen orientation was changed while the list was open.

In addition:

  • Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 (IT Home Note: version number T3B1.230224.005) includes updates in the latest public March Feature Drop version as well as other features, bug fixes, and performance optimizations.

The Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 system image is available for Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro. As well as in the Android Emulator.

Most users will install Beta 1 (T3B1.230224.005) and the March security patch from the Android Beta Program website.
