26% of users switch from iOS to Android during the season change, but experts believe Apple doesn't care

The lawsuit between Epic Games and Apple is still ongoing, and both sides have disclosed a large number of internal documents while defending themselves. One of the documents pointed out that between the first and second quarters of 2020, 26% of users switched from iOS to Android. This period is particularly interesting because the new iPhone has been released during this period.

Experts say Apple doesn't care about nearly 26% of iOS users switching to Android because the company is focused on encouraging users to buy all products in its broader ecosystem of features. Experts believe that these users are likely switching to Android to save money.

Epic Games said in court that Apple's App Store is anti-competitive and monopolistic, and does not allow developers to make money fairly. Apple said in court that "Epic wants us to be Android, but we don't want to be Android." It also said that there needs to be a single, highly curated app store to protect user privacy, security, and reliability.

Ben Bajarin, chief executive and principal analyst at Creative Strategies in California, said in an interview that many people believe that the number of users switching from Apple is relatively small, and more people are switching from the Android camp.

The point Apple is trying to make is that people do convert to each other, but whether that's a valid point is questionable. "They certainly don't convert 40% of the time, but they use this statistic to say that 20% or more of people are leaving iOS and moving to Android every quarter," Ben said. "Their point is that conversions do happen, but it's also bidirectional; there's growth on their platform. People do move from Android to iOS, but generally speaking, it's not a big number."
