Apple releases iOS and iPadOS 12.5.4 updates for older devices

Apple today released new iOS and iPadOS 12.5.4 updates, and the new software is aimed at older devices that cannot run iOS 14 updates.

The update to iOS and iPadOS 12.5.4 is currently available for download and the software is available through the Settings app on all eligible devices. To access the new software, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, iOS 12.5.4 introduces important security updates and is recommended for all users. Apple often releases security updates for older devices that are no longer eligible for the current version of iOS to protect users from malware and other security vulnerabilities.

Apple's security support document states that the update resolves three vulnerabilities that could lead to arbitrary code execution. Two of the vulnerabilities affecting WebKit could have been exploited. One of the vulnerabilities has been fixed in iOS 14.6, and the other two may be resolved in iOS 14.7.
