More than 20% of users are still using third-party Android ROMs

Compared with the closed system of Apple iOS, Android system is much more open. Flashing is one of the reasons why many people choose Android phones. In recent years, people have gradually used the official system, but there are still people who use third-party ROM for flashing. Surveys show that more than 20% of users are still using it. Androidauthority website recently conducted a survey on different platforms such as websites/Twitter/YouTuBie to investigate the sources of system ROMs used by people, especially the situation of custom ROMs modified by third parties.

From the overall situation, more than 40% of users have used third-party ROMs, 37% have never used them, and 21.8% are currently using them, which is a considerable proportion.

Of course, this is just the statistics from the Androidauthority website. Their user base is relatively active, and there are many people who flash or have flashed their phones. The proportion of all Android users who are still using flashing ROMs is much smaller.

However, according to this survey, many people have used flashing ROM before. Although the detailed reasons were not stated, the reason why people flashed their phones before was that the official ROM was not easy to use and had many restrictions. Secondly, third-party ROMs were streamlined, smooth, and could even be rooted to remove various restrictions.

In recent years, the number of Android users who flash their phones has indeed decreased. Domestic Android systems such as MIUI/EMUI/ColorOS/Orgin OS are much more powerful and easy to use. Of course, the most important thing is that the authorities have basically banned flashing ROMs, otherwise it would be a lot of fun.
