Apple introduces major functional and design improvements to the official Weather app in iOS 15

After acquiring the meteor weather app Dark Sky in 2020, Apple finally introduced major design improvements in the official weather app in iOS 15. First of all, from the appearance point of view, the new version of the weather app in iOS 15 can provide the information users need at a glance more clearly than before. Referring to the card-style interface of the Settings app, the UI design divides various information into several main parts.

In the main view, there is still a weather overview based on each hour, and users can switch to view the weather forecast for the next 10 days.

The updated 10-day weather forecast also displays more details and has a bar graph that allows users to easily know the temperature changes in the coming period.

Scroll down further and you'll see the new weather module, which adds a lot of graphical data, including air quality, temperature, UV index, sunset and sunrise, wind, precipitation, humidity, visibility, and air pressure.

It is worth mentioning that Apple has also added a full-screen weather map to iOS 15, which provides overview data on expected precipitation, air quality, and temperature.

Users can change the view to precipitation or air quality maps by tapping the default temperature map and stack, or tap the collapsed small map icon in the lower left corner of the Weather App to choose to access the weather map from anywhere.

The precipitation map is now animated, showing the path of incoming storms and the intensity of rain and snow, while the air quality and temperature maps allow users to view local and surrounding area conditions and zoom in or out as needed.

However, the current air quality information function will only be available in market areas such as Canada, Mainland China, Germany, France, India, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Users can also set up notifications when it is likely to rain, snow or hail in the next hour. For example, in the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland, you can turn on the next hour's precipitation reminder function.

Finally, to coincide with the updated design in the Weather app in iOS 15, Apple is also providing thousands of new animated backgrounds to better display more information about the sun's position, rain, clouds, storms, and other weather phenomena.

Whether it's day or night, or the weather pattern changes, the background animation changes in real time. However, this feature is limited to devices equipped with A12 Bionic and above chips, and older iPhones will miss these detailed improvements.
