With the same 4GB of memory, why can the iPhone be used smoothly for 5 years, but Android cannot?

Looking back at some of my friends around me, until 2021, many people are still using models such as iPhone7, iPhone8, and iPhoneX. You must know that the memory of these three models is only 2GB and 3GB. Even the iPhone11 released two years ago has only 4GB of memory. However, the Android market still insists that only hundred-yuan phones with 4GB of memory are used.

1. The underlying logic of Apple phones is different from that of Android phones, and the upgrade in experience is small due to the larger memory

iPhone responds to touch operations first, and then helps us open programs. Android, on the other hand, opens programs directly. If the phone's memory usage is large at this time, there will be obvious lag. The program will not be opened until the background memory is automatically cleared.

Therefore, even if the iPhone is equipped with 2GB of memory, thanks to the different underlying logic of iOS, it actually feels faster and smoother than Android.

2. Virtual operation mechanism and unified message push

When creating iOS, Apple did not intend to turn iOS into a mobile phone system that consumes a lot of memory. For programs that have not been used for a long time, Apple will completely close them in the background. Although users can still see it in the background tasks, the program has actually been closed and will be reloaded when clicked again. I believe that every iPhone user has a deep understanding of this.

In addition to the virtual operating mechanism, unified message push is also one of Apple's killer features. Apple has its own servers and maintains connections with major App servers. When a program is resident in the background and is being watched, the App server will send the message to the Apple server, and then through transit, it will finally be sent to the iPhone. In this way, even if the program is closed, the user can still receive the message, which saves a lot of memory.

3. AppStore is very strict in app review, while Android is full of chaos

iPhone can only download and install programs through the AppStore, and Apple is very strict in reviewing each software, and it must comply with the development rules set by Apple. This avoids many rogue programs. However, Android is completely different. There are many ways to download apps, and there are countless major app stores. You can get in by paying money. This is why many overseas Android phones still have 4GB or 6GB of memory, because in the overseas Android market, Android phones must download and install programs through Google Play.

4. Linked startup, when opening program A, program B is also started

The "linked launch" of the Android system is a very infuriating behavior. I opened program A, but an irrelevant program B was also launched. Although it cannot be seen in the background tasks, it has actually occupied our memory. Imagine if I opened many programs and linked many other irrelevant apps at the same time, let alone 8GB of memory, even 12GB would not be enough.

Final Thoughts

Due to the different systems, the underlying logic is also different, so Android phones can only keep increasing their memory to catch up with the smoothness of iOS. That's why with the same 4GB, an iPhone can be used smoothly for five years, while an Android starts to lag after half a year. It's not the Android phone manufacturers' fault, but the Android system and the chaotic App market.
