According to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, smartphone vendors shipped 330 million units this quarter. Although a slight decline in the third quarter was expected in line with the quarterly trend, the actual decline was more than twice the forecast value (-2.9%).

Samsung topped the list with 69 million units shipped and a 20.8% market share in the third quarter, but it fell 14.2% year-on-year, mainly due to tight supply.

Apple reclaimed the second spot with 50.4 million units shipped, a 15.2% market share and an incredible 20.8% year-over-year growth.

After experiencing double-digit growth in the first four quarters, Xiaomi fell 4.6% in the third quarter and faced supply shortages that were not seen in previous quarters. However, Xiaomi still ranked third with a market share of 13.4% and shipments of 44.3 million units.
