Google recently released a new job posting on its official recruitment page, and this job posting revealed the future development direction of Android Studio. According to the job posting, the position is a senior software engineer for Android Studio. In the introduction, Google wrote: We are starting a new project in Android Studio to make it usable for Android OS development. Android Studio is an Android integrated development environment (IDE) officially launched by Google. It is built on JetBrains' IntelliJ IDEA software and is designed specifically for developing Android applications. It can be downloaded and installed on Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. Android Studio was first released in May 2013, and the first stable version was released in December 2014. To make an Android app today, Android Studio is an essential development tool as it provides access to the Android SDK, various versions of the emulator, tools to optimize the performance of your app, and of course everything you need to actually write Java and Kotlin code. However, the Android operating system itself carries more and more complex codes and components. The Android operating system has code for hardware access and Android core functions, and has the Linux kernel as its foundation. In addition to Java and Kotlin, which are commonly used to develop Android applications, the operating system itself also contains many components written in C++ and Rust, and Android Studio is not currently good at these languages. From the recruitment information released by Google, we can learn that Google hopes that all projects involving the Android operating system can be developed through Android Studio. Android OS development spans many areas: from Android components, Android framework, various hardware features (camera, Bluetooth, audio/video) to the Linux kernel. These components are also programmed in different languages, including Kotlin, Java, C++, and Rust. We (Google) hope that through this new project, we can extend Android Studio to apply it to all of these areas. In other words, Google plans to upgrade Android Studio from a simple Android application development tool to an all-round tool that can develop the Android operating system. After the upgrade, Android Studio will be used by OEMs and ROM manufacturers/developers. If this project is successful, Android Studio will cover all links in the Android development chain and provide a one-stop solution. The recruitment information shows that the job location of this position is located at Google's Mountain View headquarters, and remote work is available. The minimum salary is US$198,000 (the minimum salary does not include additional bonuses, benefits and equity). The job application link is left for you (link), and interested developers can apply (Don't forget each other if you become rich).
