Apple revealed iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura at its WWDC22 keynote. These major operating system upgrades include a ton of new features and changes. Most notably, iPhone users can now fully customize their lock screens with different fonts, widgets, 3D wallpapers, and more. iOS has also gained a ton of other additions for a relatively limited operating system. iMessage and Apple Mail have gained undo send features, and FaceTime now supports Handoff. Another smaller change is a new toggle that appears to allow iOS 16 users to bypass verification codes for apps and websites. It is reported that a new option for automatic verification has appeared in iOS 16 beta 1. It is turned on by default and states that iCloud will handle verification of the verification code on behalf of the user. It is not clear under what conditions it works, but it does sound like a feature that can save users from having to solve annoying verification codes. It’s a bit ironic that iOS 16 will handle human verification without human input. It’s still unknown how exactly the feature will work or what the specific conditions are for it. If you’re curious and want to check it out, you can go into the Settings app, tap your name at the very top of the list, tap Password & Security, and then scroll to the bottom of the list. If you’re willing to continue to solve these intrusive puzzles, you can disable it there. iOS 16 is currently in testing. The first beta is available to those who join the company's developer program. If you don't want to pay $99 per year, you can wait for the free public beta program. Apple has said that it will launch the program in July. Keep in mind, though, that beta versions can be very unstable, so you shouldn't install them on your daily driver. |
