Xiaomi responds to being banned in India (with original text) British media reported that India has banned 47 Chinese apps including Xiaomi and Baidu. Xiaomi responded: We are understanding the development of the situation and will take appropriate measures

India has banned mobile apps developed by Chinese companies including Xiaomi and Baidu, according to reports citing Indian government sources. This is the latest move by India to crack down on Chinese companies since the border standoff between China and India. In response, Xiaomi said it is looking into the situation and will take appropriate measures. Baidu declined to comment.

According to reports, in June this year, the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology banned 59 Chinese mobile applications on the grounds of "threat to sovereignty and national security", and recently imposed a ban on 47 applications, including Xiaomi Browser and Baidu Search Engine. But sources said the Indian government has not announced the latest decision, so it is not clear which apps are affected. Most Xiaomi smartphones reportedly come pre-installed with the Mi Browser, and the ban could mean the company needs to stop installing the browser on new devices it sells in India. Reuters cited data from Hong Kong technology research firm Counterpoint as saying that Xiaomi is the best-selling brand in the Indian smartphone market, with nearly 90 million users. The report believes that the above ban is part of India's move to "fight back" against China's dominance in the country's Internet services market.

At the same time, India's Mint reported on the 6th that the Indian power service department said it had canceled the purchase contract for 2 million smart meters with Indonesia's PT Hexing on the grounds of "not meeting the bidding conditions" and would re-tender for it. The report said the company actually belongs to Haixing Group, which is headquartered in Hangzhou, China. Previously, the Modi government had announced that it would replace all electricity meters with smart prepaid meters by 2022. In addition, the Indian Premier League (IPL) suspended its cooperation agreement with its main sponsor, Chinese mobile phone manufacturer vivo, on the 6th.
