Frosty, a cat living in London, has been declared the world's oldest cat by Guinness World Records. As of November 10, 2022, Frosty was 26 years and 316 days old.
Frosty was born in 1995 and lived happily with her first owner for ten years. After her first owner passed away, Frosty was adopted by her original owner's sister and lived happily for another 14 years. After her second owner passed away, Frosty lived with her son. Later, some problems arose, and her third owner made the difficult decision to hand Frosty over to volunteers from a cat protection organization.
The beloved long-lived cat has now been adopted by Vicky Green in Orpington, whose new owner never imagined she would adopt a record-breaking feline. Vicky, who has previous experience with cats, says Frosty is an "amazing cat" who has adapted well to her new environment and snuggles up to sleep in her bed.
Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Grundy said, “We are delighted to meet the lovely Flossie and celebrate her longevity. It’s not every day you meet a cat born in the mid-1990s, which is equivalent to over 120 years old in human years. Flossie’s age is comparable to that of Jeanne Calmont, the French supercentenarian who lived to be 122 years and 164 days old, holding the record for the longest-lived person ever. We are happy to see Flossie settle down and enjoy her later years. We congratulate her; she is a well-deserved record-breaker.”
Vicky said she never imagined she would live with a Guinness World Record holder. She said, “I knew from the beginning that Frosty was a special cat, but I never thought I would adopt a Guinness World Record holder. Frosty is so affectionate and playful, not at all like someone so old. Frosty is deaf and has poor eyesight, but none of this seems to bother her. She has completely adapted to her new life, is very enthusiastic, and has a great appetite. Besides snuggling on her favorite yellow blanket, Frosty will eat anything offered.”
